Itinerary
09:00 departure from the starting point. Be sure to arrive at least 15 minutes before departure.
Boyana Church is a small temple at the outskirts of Sofia with frescoes dating back to three separate periods: 11th, 13th and 19th century. The most important and fascinating are the frescoes dating from 1259. They are Renaissance frescoes that predate the Italian Renaissance (triggered by the works of Giotto) and brake the strict Christian canon law to present pure human emotions, royal figures and folklore elements.
Rila Monastery is one of Bulgaria’s symbols and a popular tourist destination. The monastery is set deep in the heart of Rila Mountain, between the Rilska and Drushliavitza Rivers, at 1147 metres (3760 feet) above sea level. It is situated 120 kilometres south of Sofia.
Return to the starting point at approximately 17:00

Truly fantastic experience! The visit to the Rila Monastery and the Rila Cave was unforgettable, made even more special by our guide, Velislava, who was very knowledgeable, engaging, and always available. In addition to explaining the history and curiosities of the places we visited, she gave us many useful tips about Sofia and what to see and do during our stay. She was always smiling, sociable, and approachable, making us feel comfortable throughout the day. Kudos also to the driver, who was very professional, kind, and friendly, making the trip enjoyable and relaxing. I highly recommend this experience to anyone who wants to visit these wonderful places with knowledgeable and passionate people. Absolutely 5 stars!
Professional transport, competent tour guide, and sufficient time at the monastery; I also participated in the cave tour, which was relevant to the topic. I only saw Boyana from the outside; I bought my ticket too late to participate inside for the maximum. I was too late to buy my ticket to participate inside for the maximum of 10 minutes. A maximum of 10 people are allowed in the church; with 60 people on the bus, it is a challenge. Good tour to the volcano.
The area where the Rila Monastery is located has magnificent natural beauty. Both the monastery and its surroundings are very beautiful. Since it's a monastery, there's a dress code. It is being enforced very strictly. Don't wear shorts or tank tops 🙈 The tour was great. The car was very comfortable. The guide was very entertaining and funny.
Great day. We went to Boyana Church and Rila Monastery, both of which were beautiful. I definitely recommend bringing snacks or a meal with you, as there was not an opportunity to buy food until after 3 pm, though the bakery was delicious once we got there. Hristo was a great tour guide.
Great trip with Christian (guide) and Nasko (driver) very informative and knowledgeable
The tour guide was very friendly and was good at organizing things, but the tour was too large and there was not enough time at Rila Monastery. There was no guiding really at the church and barely enough time to see the church, frescoes, and get a quick pastry. No time for museum, tower, gift shop, to walk around. I would recommend not going on St. Ivan's Cave tour which wasn't that exciting and actually have some time at the monastery. They give you no choice and you must stop at Boyana Church, which was nice, but with approximately 75 people and other tour groups it takes forever since only 10 people can go in at a time. We spent just as much time at Boyana Church as we did at the Rila Monastery.
We enjoyed very much the trip as a family. Hristo was very knowledgeable, kind and patient. I truly recommend this trip if you are visiting Sofia.
The tour could save your transport time to visit two famous attractions in Sofia. Unfortunately, there was some communication problems with the church, which some of us could not visit the church. In general, a nice tour.
Great experience! The tour of the Rila Monastery and Boyana Church was wonderfully guided in Italian and English by Velislava, a woman of great wisdom and rare generosity who, with great care and much culture, allowed us to take home immense value. Gratitude!
Nice trip to interesting locations
