Where Art and Architecture Unite Few landmarks captivate visitors quite like the Atomium. Blending futuristic design with a touch of nostalgia, this striking structure in northwest Brussels is a true icon. Designed as a magnified model of an iron crystal unit cell, the Atomium’s interconnected spheres represent individual atoms. Originally built for the 1958 World Expo, it stands as a unique fusion of art, science, and architecture. Today, it continues to inspire over 600,000 visitors annually, securing its place as one of Belgium’s most recognized symbols.
A magnificent blend of history, culture, and green spaces, the Cinquantenaire is one of Brussels’ most iconic sites. This vast park, adorned with impressive monuments and museums, is crowned by a grand triple-arched triumphal arch. Built in 1880 to celebrate Belgium’s 50th anniversary of independence, the park is a hub for events, from festivals and concerts to firework displays and sporting activities. Wide pathways lead visitors to remarkable attractions, including the Pavilion of Human Passions by Victor Horta, the Royal Museum of the Armed Forces & Military History, the Royal Museums of Art and History, and Autoworld. For a breathtaking view of Brussels, head to the top of the arch, where a majestic bronze quadriga stands proudly.
As we explore the European Quarter, we’ll uncover why Brussels is regarded as the capital of the EU, delving into its political significance and international influence. Our journey will then take a striking turn as we pass through the vibrant African neighborhood, offering a completely different perspective. Here, we will shed light on Belgium’s colonial past—a history often overlooked yet crucial to understanding the country’s complex heritage.

Very nice Mood, various tents with food, drinks, crafts and products from the region. Food and drink with the foundations of the Dutch and French duality of the region. Very worth the experience.

Fabulous Christmas market with all kinds of products predominates sweets and mulled wine food booths. Both the Stock Exchange and Santa Catalina markets are worth touring.

We spent 4 days in Brussels just before Christmas, returning home Christmas Eve. The markets were lovely, very busy and plenty of stalls. However, we were very disappointed in the lack of Christmas music that was played around all the markets. Even in the evening with all the lights and the number of people out there was still very little Christmas music being played. We had a day in Bruge and visited the markets there and still very little Christmas music. Being so near to Christmas being able to listen to Christmas songs would add to the atmosphere.
