  • Minimum age 6 years
  • For safety reasons pregnant women cannot participate. (NO EXCEPTIONS)
  • Our kayaks are all tandem kayaks for two people - you are booking per person not per kayak. If one space is left, that means there is 1 space on a tandem kayak.
  • Guest under 18 yrs of age must be accompanied by an adult.
  • The owner of the service animal must provide a Licensed Life-vest by the Coast Guard for the animal. The animal must be in total control all the time. Keep in mind that there will be many people around in the dark.
  • Guest that are not able to complete the tour for any reason will not be provided a refund of any type.
  • All guests must be able to row their kayaks by themselves. One of the requirements is that you are able to get in and out of the kayak on your own and be able to maneuver it. If you are an unexperienced kayaker we highly suggest you choose the earlier tour.
  • If one space is left, that means there is 1 space (for 1 person) on a tandem kayak (No single kayaks available). You will be accompanied by another guest on the tour.
  • All guest must arrive 30 mins before the start of their tour. We respectfully will not accept or wait for any guest after this time.
  • If necessary, a tarp (canopy) may be used during the excursion to block any light pollution and enhanced the experience.
  • In order to best appreciate the bioluminescent phenomena our tours run at sunset and early evening and it can get quite dark in the mangrove canal. So, if you are afraid of darkness, a first time kayaker, or have small kids we strongly suggest taking the earlier, sunset trip. This way you can see where you are going, get use to the environment and sharpen your kayaking skills
  • Due to the immense popularity the Bio Bay tour, at times can get crowded. It’s not uncommon to meet up with other tour groups waiting to access the canal leading to the lagoon. There can be bumping other kayaks along the way.
  • Please keep in mind that this tour takes place in a natural environment and that the bioluminescent phenomenon, although rare, can be seen year round. The intensity of brightness is unpredictable and can vary from minimal to very bright suddenly.
  • SPECIAL NOTE: We encourage our guests to not reserve the tour on the same day of arrival to the Island, including coming from Vieques or Culebra. If the FLIGHT or FERRY is delayed and the guest misses the tour the guest will not be entitled to a refund or rescheduling.
  • TOUR TIME might change depending on sunset time. If so we will send a reminder for updated meeting time.
  • This tour takes place in the water. Expect to get completely wet. Wear clothes and shoes that can get wet. We recommend to bring a change of clothes and towel for after the trip.
  • Tour is not canceled in rainy days. We will get wet anyways ;)
  • There are public bathrooms on-site, but they are not always in good condition. You may consider stopping in fast food before getting to the meeting site or using the bathrooms from the nearby stores/restaurants which are sometimes available.
  • Certain time of the year great amounts of sargassum (seaweed) arrive to our coasts. This can make paddling to feel like a workout. Also the natural decomposition odor might be unpleasant.
  • Even if Viator system allows the guest to write weight over the limit, it will still be 240 lbs the weight limit.
  • No Expecting Mothers
  • For safety reasons, children under 6 years old CANNOT participate in PURE ADVENTURE tour.
  • Those who have epilepsy, back problems, claustrophobia, heart conditions, dizziness, recent surgery or any other condition that may put life in risk are not allowed to participate in PURE ADVENTURE tour.

Fun Activity

The crew was knowledgeable, up front about the weather/light viewing to be minimal and helpful. We still decided to book the trip. After walking through the seaweed to get to the kayaks - the ride out and back was an adventure. They provided bug spray and snacks with water upon our return & held car keys for safe keeping. Long pants were helpful but regardless I did get wet from the waist down. Water shoes and a water protector case to carry your phones is a must. Bring a change of clothes and towel for when you get out.

Wear bad shoes, don't expect lights

do not wear shoes that you remotely care about. make peace with the fact that you might not see ANY LIGHTS.

Operator response

hello Getaway45012069405, thank you for your feedback. We just wanted to clarify a few things. All of the things mentioned are said in the description of details of the tour and multiple times like our text message reminder etc. This is a natural phenomenon. As such, its brightness is unpredictable. We’ve had full moon nights with high brightness and no moon nights with low brightness. This is a water excursion, keep in mind this means you are likely to get wet, that means also shoes. Thank you for your feedback.

Kayaking

That you have to wade in the water that has some seaweed in it to get to the kayaks…after that the experience was great

Operator response

Hello Curtis_W, Thank you for your review! We're happy you had a great experience. The seaweed near the shore is a natural and seasonal condition this time of year, but we're glad it didn't take away from your time on the water. We hope to welcome you back again soon! awesome evening on the bay!

Amazing experience kayak by through the mangrove canals, watching dusk fall onto the city, and experiencing the bioluminescence bay. Despite it being low visibility, our tour guides were all awesome and made sure everyone was having fun. Javier/Eli/Amoury/Gio/Cataline kept everyone safe and what set this tour apart from other tourist options was that we were actually able to learn about the phenomenon and area. Highly recommend even when the bioluminescence isn’t the brightest as it is still a great excursion overall!

Low Light Phenomenon

Eli was great. Bioluminescence wasn’t super high but they said they would give us $10 back which is nice. They did a good job of making it possible for us to see the organisms. I liked the earlier time because you can see the wildlife and trees while kayaking to the lagoon whereas in the dark you can’t see much at all

Operator response

Dear Michael R, Thank you very much for sharing your feedback. I'm glad that you had a great time with us. As you mentioned, we like to tell our guests in advance what to expect regarding the bioluminescence if it hasn't been optimal. Thanks again for your feedback and for joining us. Lovely trip

Great trip. Low bioluminescence, however, a tarp was used and we got to see enough. Some of the other kayakers couldn't follow directions, but the tour guides were great. Lovely way to spend an evening.
