Many of the structures are long since gone except for a few, but we know where they were located. This is a fascinating tour that will shed new light on what happened during the infamous witchcraft hysteria which turned neighbor against neighbor. The guide will go to as many of the following stops as possible and maybe not in the order listed.
Dedicated in 1992, this bench style memorial is in remembrance for the 20 innocent victims of the 1692 Salem Witchcraft Trials. Each bench has the name of the person, how they died and the date. You will learn the symbolism of the memorial and hear some of the stories of the victims.
Now a popular restaurant located in the center of historic Salem, Rockafellas (aka the Daniel Low and Co. building) was the original site of the First Church of Salem, as well as the city meeting house in 1692. It is located in the center of town and played a role in the witch trials.
Now the Merchant Hotel this is the site where George Corwin's house once stood. He was the High Sheriff of Essex County in 1692 and was responsible for signing arrest and execution warrants of the innocent victims of the trials. He took people's personal property and was caught torturing a few people in his home.
The Witch House is the only remaining Salem structure with direct ties to the witch trials of 1692. It is the home of Judge Jonathan Corwin. He used to meet in his house with Judge Hathorne and discuss who could be a witch. The house dates back to the 1660s.
The Salem YMCA is on Sewall Street that was named for judge Stephen Sewall of the Witchcraft Court. Nine-year-old Betty Parris was moved here in July of 1692. She was the daughter of Rev. Parris. While the museum isn't tied to the 1692 Witchcraft Trials, it is an example of how people were jailed. They were put in small jail cells the size of a phone booth or closet. And they had to pay for their own jail time. You'll hear the stories of the jailing process and you'll also get a photo op in the pillories (aka stocks).

Additional trials were held here in January 1693. You'll hear some of the travesties of the decisions by the court. One of the accused was declared innocent by the jury but the judges nullified the decision.

very knowledgeable tour guide. I would recommend it to another one without any delay.
Hello and Thank you for the amazing review! We're so pleased to hear you had a great time with us! Please be sure to come back and visit again soon!
Our guide was knowledgeable and stuck to history which was exactly what we wanted. She didn’t read from a script and wasn’t there to entertain us (like some other guides we passed). For that I was greatly appreciative. However, sometimes she didn’t explain things as clearly as would have been helpful. I think she assumed we knew things that we did not. When she would ask if anyone had any questions, I didn’t understand enough to know how to formulate a question. I left with more knowledge about the witch trials than before I began, which was great. However, I would have liked a more clear storyline.
Hello and Thank you for the review! Please be sure to come back and visit us and Salem Again soon! We understand that not every guide’s presentation style connects with every guest, but the reaction you described isn’t something we typically see from our groups. Most of our visitors leave with great reviews and often comment on how much they learned and enjoyed the experience.
For the price, we expected a bit more from this experience. Felt like we were stopping in random places and then being overwhelmed with unorganized information about soooo many people. Wish that the information had been more organized and unique. The guide was awkward and kept pausing for a reaction when didn’t have one to give. We will try a different tour next time.

I was hoping this would be an incredible tour, providing a timeline and history so we had a better understanding of the events. Our guide was awful. She was all over the place and terribly confusing to the point that we had to do our own research afterwards to understand what happened. There was too much talking, the locations we went to had no real connection...stood in parking lots most times...and for the price I would have expected more. We did a tour in Boston which was fantatic...mostly because of our guide. This guide said she had been doing this for 8 years and honestly it felt more like 8 days. Waste of money!
The trials were 334 years ago and the buildings are gone. The Witch House is the home of Judge Corwin. It's called the witch house because of his ties to the witch trials. We know the site of the executions, but nobody knows what tree was used to hang the witches. Nobody knows if the tree still exists. And the debate rages as to whether they used a tree for the first hanging and then built a gallows. We know the locations of many of the events. Every tour in Salem has the same issue, but at least our tour shows pictures we've found from old books of people's homes and locations where events happened that are too far to walk. We walk about a mile because many locations were centered in the downtown area. We understand that not every guide’s presentation style connects with every guest, but the reaction you described isn’t something we typically see from our groups. Hank was great. Loved the tour and learning about the backstories. The cemetery was my favorite part. I could tell she really cared about the people behind the stories.

This was exactly what we hoped. Guide was knowledgeable and fun. She worked around all the noise of the Sunday traffic and we had a good time and learned a lot about the area.
