Itinerary
The drive from Bergen offers stunning landscapes, with views of the beautiful Osterfjord and fascinating stories from your guide along the way.
After about an hour, we make a short stop — a chance to stretch your legs and use the restroom. When opening hours allow, the break is arranged at Dalegarden Outlet and Kafe, a welcoming local shop which offers a variety of great goods from different suppliers at reduced prices.
About thirty minutes later, we pass through Voss — a charming town in the heart of Western Norway — before the scenery becomes even more dramatic as we approach majestic mountains, spectacular waterfalls, and one of Norway’s most beautiful fjords.
Gudvangen is a beautiful and authentic village, nestled deep within the UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord — a place that feels truly Norwegian. Surrounded by towering mountains and cascading waterfalls, the village offers a calm and charming atmosphere. Gudvangen is also home to the famous Viking Village, which adds to its unique character and historical charm. Here you’ll have some free time to explore the area before we board the cruise boat.
In Gudvangen, we board the boat that takes us onto the Nærøyfjord – one of Norway’s most beautiful and dramatic fjords. With steep mountain walls, narrow passages, and impressive landscapes, the fjord offers a quiet and unforgettable way to experience Norway’s nature. The Nærøyfjord is a branch of the Sognefjord and stretches for about 17 kilometres, with mountains rising up to 1,800 metres above sea level. As part of the UNESCO World Heritage list, this area stands as a remarkable example of Norway’s natural beauty. Sit back, relax, and take in the unspoiled nature around you! (From June 1st to August 31st, the fjord cruise starts at 11.00 AM)
Flåm is a small, scenic village located at the heart of the Aurlandsfjord, a branch of the majestic Sognefjord. Surrounded by steep mountains and waterfalls, it offers a peaceful atmosphere and some of the most beautiful scenery in the region.
Stegastein is a spectacular viewing platform that stretches 30 metres out from the mountainside, 650 metres above the Aurlandsfjord. From here, you’ll enjoy an incredible panoramic view of the fjord and the surrounding mountains – a favourite stop for both visitors and locals. The platform is part of the National Tourist Route between Aurland and Lærdal, offering a unique chance to experience Norway’s dramatic landscape up close. Occasionally, summer fog can reduce visibility at this height, but on such days we’ll make an alternative stop in Aurland.
After visiting Stegastein, we head back toward Bergen. On the way, we stop at the historic Stalheim Hotel, majestically located with panoramic views over the dramatic Nærøydalen Valley. The hotel has welcomed guests since the 1800s and holds a rich history, including royal visits and serving as a source of artistic inspiration. From May 1st to August 31st, we instead stop once more in Gudvangen for a well-deserved break at Gudvangen Fjordtell.
Tvindefossen is an impressive waterfall, dropping 116 meters in a beautiful display of multiple streams cascading down the cliff. The waterfall is surrounded by a legend claiming that its water has rejuvenating powers. This legend has made Tvindefossen one of Norway’s most visited natural attractions, welcoming thousands of visitors each year. (From June 1st to August 31st, we visit Tvindefossen on the return journey.)

Worth every penny! If there is one thing you’d pick to do during your stay in Bergen, this is it. Big bus was nice and comfortable and pickup location was convenient, the views of the fjords were breathtaking. They stopped often to allow everyone a snack break/ bathroom break. We stopped at a couple of viewpoints, and also at a waterfall. Very scenic route and our tour guide was amazing! She shared many fun facts, funny stories, and songs. Didn’t overdo it but just the right amount to keep everyone entertained. Again 10/10 recommend!!!
Amazing experience all around. We did this tour yesterday and our guide Alice and driver Mikael were beyond outstanding. The tour was comfortable, informative and really fun. The sandwich provided for a light lunch was fresh and tasty. Everything super organized and smooth. Definitely recommend this tour.
This was a fantastic experience! The tour exceeded all our expectations. Then tour guide and the bus driver were an outstanding team! They ensured we experienced all the beauty of the fjord region and provided us with interesting insight regarding the history and culture of Norway. I would recommend this tour without any hesitation!
Very professional and kind guide. Positive experience with many beautiful memories to keep for a lifetime
A beautiful experience, which is worth the trip to Norway. A perfectly organized tour, very comfortable. Our guide, Marietta, was excellent; she did not hold back in telling us about both the places and the history of the places, but also news about society and life in Norway; she was truly very helpful and friendly. A round of applause for our driver Torgen, a phenomenon on the hairpin turns to go up to Stegastein. The cruise in the Naeroyfjord and the visit to Flam were spectacular. Even on the boat, the guide told us about life in the villages overlooking the fjord, with a very respectable salmon lunch. Highly recommended.

An unforgettable experience from start to finish. The scenery was breathtaking, the lunch was great, and everything was very well organized. Our guide, Liam, was knowledgeable, engaging, and genuinely funny. Mustafa was an excellent driver who handled the winding mountain roads with impressive skill. Highly recommended!

We'll be sure to pass your kind words on to Liam and Mustafa; they'll be very happy to hear them. Thank you for choosing Travel North and for your recommendation. We hope to welcome you back for another adventure in Western Norway someday!
Beautiful, dramatic scenery. Jan was amazing. The boat ride was worth it even in the rain. Take a raincoat and waterproof shoes and enjoy!
Thank you for your lovely review! Your advice is spot on—here in Western Norway, a good raincoat and waterproof shoes are often the key to an even better adventure! 😊 The rain is part of what makes our fjords so dramatic and our waterfalls so spectacular. Thank you for travelling with us, and we hope to see you again on another Travel North tour!
Huge shoutout to Travel North for an unforgettable trip! Our guide was super entertaining, helpful and shared so many awesome facts about Norway. The Nærøyfjord cruise was hands down my favorite part. It absolutely amazing! I just wish we had more time in Flåm because we only managed to hit one shop. Such a great experience! Highly recommended!

Everything was better than expected. Our guide Jan was fantastic. He gave us so much history and information about Norway. It was highly informative. Our driver, I don’t remember his name for sure, but he’s from Sweden, was so incredible. He maneuvered the roads and made it look easy. Lunch was good, the scenery was spectacular. It was a very long day and absolutely worth it! Highly recommend!
Thank you so much for your wonderful review! Knowing that the tour exceeded your expectations is the best compliment we could receive :) Western Norway is a place best experienced at a relaxed pace, and although it's a long day, we're so glad you felt every moment was worth it. Thank you for your recommendation, and we hope to welcome you back to Norway again someday!
Very beautiful day, a true discovery of the Norwegian fjords. With the luck of sunny weather as soon as we got away from Bergen. Competent and interesting guide. My only reservation concerns the price, which I found quite high, but known from the start.
Thank you very much for your kind review! We're happy to hear that you enjoyed discovering the Norwegian fjords with us and that our guide helped make the day both interesting and enjoyable. And thank you for mentioning the weather! It's one of the things we always tell our guests: the forecast in Western Norway can be very different from the reality. It's not unusual to leave Bergen under grey skies and find sunshine just an hour later. So never let the forecast scare you away—you might be pleasantly surprised! We truly appreciate your feedback and hope to welcome you back to Norway one day.
