Maungawhau, also known as Mount Eden, is a prominent volcanic cone located in Auckland, New Zealand. It's one of the city's most famous landmarks, offering stunning views of the surrounding area from its summit. The name "Maungawhau" is Māori, meaning "mountain of the whau tree," referring to the local whau trees that once grew in the area. The cone is part of the Auckland volcanic field, and its crater is a key feature of the site.
Drive through Auckland Domain, its one of the city's oldest and largest public parks It's a lush, expansive space that serves as a hub for outdoor activities, relaxation, and cultural events. The park covers about 75 hectares (around 185 acres) and is set in an area that was originally a volcanic crater, known as the "Pukekawa" crater. Drive by Auckland War Memorial Museum: Located at the highest point of the Domain, this Museum is a major cultural and historical landmark. It showcases New Zealand’s natural and Māori history, along with memorials for New Zealand’s wars and fallen soldiers.
From Mission Bay, you can enjoy stunning views of the Auckland skyline, Rangitoto Island (a dormant volcanic island), and the surrounding harbors. It’s a fantastic spot for photography, particularly at sunrise or sunset. Beautiful Beach and Waterfront: The beach itself is a sandy stretch that’s perfect for sunbathing, swimming, and picnicking. On a sunny day, it’s a great spot to relax by the water and enjoy views of the Waitematā Harbour.
Michael Joseph Savage (often referred to as "MJ Savage") was the Prime Minister of New Zealand from 1935 until his death in 1940. He is one of New Zealand’s most beloved and influential political figures, particularly known for his leadership during the Great Depression and his pivotal role in establishing New Zealand's welfare state. In Auckland, Savage Memorial Park is a notable tribute to his legacy. The Michael Joseph Savage Memorial is located within this park on the slopes of Mt. Victoria in the suburb of Devonport. It’s a peaceful, landscaped area with stunning views of Auckland Harbour and the city.
