You’ll leave with a list of neighborhood favorites, new food discoveries, and a deeper understanding of why Astoria is considered one of the best food neighborhoods in NYC. Come hungry, wear comfy shoes, and get ready for a fun and flavorful neighborhood adventure.

Itinerary

10 min

Make sure to come hungry! We’ll meet right in front of the Queens Library on Broadway. It’s easy to find, close to the R/M train via Steinway Station. Feel free to use the bathroom here before the tour begins! (Please note: The library is closed on Sundays, but we will still meet outside in the same spot.)

5 min

As we introduce each other and get a run down of the tour, we will eat Pandebono straight from the local bakery. It is warm, cheesy, and slightly chewy. The outside is lightly crispy while the inside melts in your mouth. It's a comforting bite that locals crave every day. It is a warm, chewy Colombian cheese bread made from yucca flour and queso fresco. It’s naturally gluten-free and has a slightly crispy outside with a soft, cheesy center. Although we will not visit the bakery This is a beloved comfort snack in Colombian households!

10 min

Steaming, hand-twisted Georgian dumplings filled with savory beef, pork and rich broth. You’ll learn the traditional way to eat one without spilling a drop. Juicy and flavorful, these dumplings are a local favorite among Astoria’s Georgian community and a must-try for first-time visitors.

10 min

Enjoy a Taiwanese gua bao (fluffy steamed bun sandwich), a favorite street food in Taiwan.

15 min

Step inside a beloved Greek market to sample olives and learn about Astoria’s strong Greek roots.

10 min

Try samosas and pakora while exploring Indian street food flavors and spices.

5 min

Taste a classic Italian-American rainbow cookie, a NYC bakery staple!

10 min

Juicy, smoky grilled pork or chicken marinated in traditional Greek herbs and cooked over charcoal. One bite and you’ll understand why Astoria is known for its authentic Greek cuisine. Perfectly tender, flavorful, and straight from the neighborhood grill.

5 min

We finish on a sweet note with a classic Italian cannoli: a crisp pastry shell filled with creamy, lightly sweetened ricotta and dusted with powdered sugar. Freshly made and delightfully indulgent, it’s the perfect finale to a multicultural culinary adventure.

Great bites!

We had a great time and ate so much good food. Coney is a great host and was so prepared with everything you needed for a food tour (wet wipes! Plates! Tupperware!). Definitely come hungry you will get plenty!

Great tour and guide!!

This tour was so much fun! We live in Manhattan but had not explored Astoria much, so this was a great way to do that! Coney was a fabulous guide, with tons of local knowledge and she brought us to great places to try various cuisines. I’m gluten free and she was able to tailor the offerings to my dietary restrictions which was much appreciated.

Fun afternoon in Astoria!

This was a really fun way to spend my first time in Astoria! The guide was super friendly and made us feel comfortable right away. It felt more like exploring the neighborhood with a friend than being on a formal tour. We had such unique and delicious foods that I wouldn’t have found any other way! We left full and satisfied!

Fun Tour of Astoria!

It was our first time in Astoria, and we were able to enjoy a lot of dishes from various countries and we left full! I especially liked the Moroccan chicken pastilla. We walked quite a bit, so it was a good exercise. The guide Coney is a local from Astoria and familiar with area and was very kind. Thank you very much.

If you just want someone...

If you just want someone to show you a few restaurants and walk the through a couple supermarkets but aren’t looking for any history of the town or its food people or culture, then this is probably fine. I didn’t feel like I got anything out of this experience at all. The timing was off, not planned well and the conversation was severely lacking. I’ve been on many food tours in many cities and this one barely qualifies. Guide was nice but definitely new at this.

Operator response

Thank you so much for your feedback. I’m truly sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. I really appreciate you taking the time to share this, as I’m still a newer guide and continuously working to improve pacing, storytelling, and flow. My tours focus on authentic local food tastings and neighborhood exploration, and based on thoughtful input from guests like you, I am now enhancing the experience with more structured historical and cultural insights about Astoria and its diverse communities. Thank you again for helping me grow.

A Yummy Must-Try for Foodies Visiting Astoria!

Word of advice: come hungry! This food tour will absolutely fill you up. Every stop was delicious, and each local business was thoughtfully chosen by the guide. Our guide, an Astoria native, was super friendly and made sure my friends and I had a great time—you could really tell how much she cares about the neighborhood and her love for food. My favorite stop was the Georgian dumpling—it was huge, doughy, and full of soup, totally different from the East Asian dumplings I’m used to! It was also super fun exploring Astoria as we walked to each stop — I even spotted a bunch of restaurants I want to check out next time I’m back!

Operator response

Haha, yes! Coming hungry is definitely great advice! I’m so glad you enjoyed the stops and got to try the Georgian dumplings. They’re a personal favorite too. It was awesome exploring the neighborhood with you, and I hope you get to check out all those other restaurants next time!
