Itinerary

10 min

We wait for the rest of the group after picking up at the meeting point, to leave for Umbria.

Admission not included60 min

Leave Rome and travel north by air-conditioned coach, following the River Tiber toward Tuscany. After roughly 1.5 hours on the road, you’ll arrive in the gorgeous town of Orvieto. Seemingly sprouting out of the volcanic rock on which it stands, the hilltop town boasts a history that dates back to Etruscan times. Stretch your legs and walk around the town, seeing highlights like the 14th-century Orvieto Cathedral – a masterpiece of Gothic architecture with a glistening façade of stained glass, mosaics and sculptures. Soak up Orvieto’s charms and admire the countless churches that are scattered around its center.

60 min

- Stop for a typical lunch

60 min

Return to your coach and travel through the rolling hills toward Umbria – Tuscany’s lesser known but just as captivating neighbor. Stop for lunch on the shores of Lake Trasimeno, and then continue to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed town of Assisi.

30 min

The Basilica of Saint Clare (Basilica di Santa Chiara in Italian) is a church in Assisi, central Italy. It is dedicated to and contains the remains of Saint Clare of Assisi, a follower of Saint Francis of Assisi and founder of the Order of Poor Ladies, known today as the Order of Saint Clare.

20 min

Another important place we will visit is the church of Santa Maria Maggiore or Sanctuary of the Stripping, where the body of San Carlo Acutis (beatified on October 10, 2020) is located.

Admission included60 min

Visit of The Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi, which is the mother church of the Roman Catholic Order of Friars Minor Conventual in Assisi, a town in the Umbria region in central Italy, where Saint Francis was born and died. The basilica, which was begun in 1228, is built into the side of a hill and comprises two churches (known as the Upper Church and the Lower Church) and a crypt, where the remains of the saint are interred.

Well planned and informative. Beautiful cities!

Cristina and Johanna were fantastic! I felt so welcomed the moment we stepped on to the bus and Cristina had so much information and history to share. Johana in Assisi was informative and I learned so much from her. She kept us engaged and involved in the tour and was patient when we wanted to diverge a little from the tour and purchase local made souvenirs. I enjoyed Orvieto and Assisi so much that I want to come back for the underground tours in both towns.

Magnificent cathedrals to explore on this tour

Leisurely trip to two magnificent medieval cities to visit their cathedrals with time to enjoy the beautiful Umbrian and Tuscany landscape. The offered lunch was disappointing with no tasty accommodation for vegetarian guests. Salad consisted of iceberg lettuce alone. Cake was very dry and fairly inedible. The guides Christina and Francesca were very knowledgeable and pleasant.

Amazing day trip to Assisi in Umbria

Outstanding day trip! The drive through Tuscany and Umbria was beautiful. We had lunch in an amazing rustic setting. Seeing the churches in Assisi was a great experience. Cristina was the best tour guide: knowledgeable, friendly, and highly attentive and helpful.

Would of been great in English as purchased

Great tour however could not give it a 5 star review because it was not in English as purchase. Guide spoke very little English and became frustrated when would ask question. She was very nice and the tour itself wonderful would have been great in English. Lunch was OK at best.
