The countryside, towns and winery visit were more than we expected. Our driver/guide, Massimo, AKA Max, was prompt and easy to locate at the port. His warm, welcoming personality really added to the quality of the tour. Definitely worth the cost to be able to set our own pace.
If you want to sample the Tuscan countryside, this is a good day trip for you. San Gimignano is beautiful, we probably could have skipped it though. Siena is fabulous but very crowded. Find out where you want to have lunch in advance. The highlight of the tour, and we should have allowed more time, was the chianti tasting. Set in a gorgeous farm house, it was a treat we will remember.
My wife and I loved hopping from port to port on the ferries and seeing these incredible towns tucked into the steep hillsides. Just a real relaxing way to see these sights. It really was like stepping back in time, so cool. Our tour guide Luca was awesome. He was informative, patient and made sure to answer any questions we had, while keeping us on a reasonable pace so we could enjoy the day. We would absolutely do this again. Oh, and had the best food of our trip in the last stop. Wow!
We arranged a personal tour of the Chianti Classico region with two wineries, lunch, and a visit to San Gimignano. Our tour driver was Massimo. He met us at the disembarkation point of our ship (since he is licensed to enter the Livorno Pier). Massimo is a true gentleman, very informative, and has a great sense of humor. As a trained Sommelier, he is passionate about excellent wine and the Tuscany/Chianti Classico region. We visited two excellent family owned wineries that are not accessible by the large tour bus wine tours the ship arranges. Our favorite winery was Casa Sola. Maria took us on a tour of the winery and vineyards, explained the organic-biodynamic methods the winery embraces, and the painstaking process to make excellent wine. The winery prepared a wonderful lunch that was advertised as "light", but included cheese and meats, salad, bread and winery made olive oil, and lasagna. The wine and olive oil were so good, we arranged for the winery to ship 2 cases to our home in the U.S. San Gimignano is a gem of a walled village. We would love to return. I would not hesitate to book a tour through BellaItalia Tours. There is good reason they are rated #1.
We had a wonderful time touring Tuscany, Siena and San Gimignano! Our guide Antonio was able to provide important information and history of the area. Everything was effortless and enjoyable!
This shore excursion was the highlight of our Mediterranean trip. Yes, it cost a little and was worth every penny. Just my husband and myself, along with our wonderful tour guide, "Max". It sprinkled all day long, but that did not hinder out wonderful day. Can't say enough about how comfortable and at ease we were on this day. Felt like we were being entertained and shown around by a family member in another country. 1st class all the way.

Wonderful day. Lucca was our guide and he was terrific...knowledgeable, friendly and patient. Would highly recommend asking for him. The visit to the winery piaggio alora was a treat and I ordered the reserve chianti to be sent as it was great.
