Itinerary
Subject to a clear weather we stop here for an amazing view over Adelaide City and suburbs. From a 710 m altitude you can see Adelaide City, Airport, Port Adelaide, Glenelg and other important points of interest.
Set in the charming town of Bridgewater in the rambling scenery of the Adelaide Hills, this old mill dates back to 1860. John Dunn, a mill engineer from Devonshire, built the mill. He built a number of flour mills throughout Australia, but the Bridgewater Mill is by far his most famous. Before getting there we would go via scenic drive through picturesque villages of Stirling and Aldgate.
Grünthal Microbrewery is the ultimate local hang out and tourism destination for craft beer, delicious gin, artisan cheese, local wine, tasty food and good times. Here you are welcome to taste regionally produced Udder Delights cheese and its free of charge. Refreshments like coffee, tea and soft drinks are on us. Wines, gin, beer and cider are available at your own cost.
Melba’s Chocolate Factory is a ‘working’ tourism factory located in a heritage listed complex 40 minutes from Adelaide, South Australia; in the picturesque township of Woodside in the Adelaide Hills. From 1919 the South Australian Farmers’ Cooperative Union made the site famous by producing cheese, butter, margarine and small goods, which were recognised worldwide. This activity ceased in 1976. From that year, the buildings lay abandoned until 1990 when Melba’s original proprietors and directors, Joy and Graeme Foristal arrived. With 1940’s era chocolate and confectionery making equipment, they began their dream making old Australian favourite chocolate and confectionery.
A brand new visitor experience centre, including a farm cafe, farm-made icecream, cooking demonstrations and free tastings, a new farm shop and private event spaces.
As Australia’s oldest surviving German settlement, explore architecturally fascinating buildings, enjoy a wide variety of food including some German origin. Also gourmet coffee, craft beers, local distilled gin, cellar doors and boutique wines.

Bob was an amazing host. He was very knowledgeable about the area, the wineries, wines varieties. He was able to customise our tour. We has an exceptional day.
Thank you Carl for wonderful words. It was a pleasure to spend a few hours with you and your wife for her special day. I am glad we managed to sneak to Hahndorf Hill Winery for a Choco-Vino experience. Safe travels and take care.
We are an older couple in our 80's from New Zealand and we wanted a relaxed tour through Adelaide Hills and Hahndorf. This was our first tour through Adelaide , so the success of the tour was important to us. We could not have made a better choice. Bob is an absolute gentleman, he helped us in every way he could, he was a wealth of knowledge and was able to answer all our questions. Bob opened the Prada doors for us, helped us access all the sights from Mt Lofty to the chocolate factory, cheese shop and a nice boutique winery. Bob gave us an hour to explore Hanhdorf, we really enjoyed the vintage market ambience of the little town. Bob has been doing this tour for a number of years but to his credit he was able to bring a real freshness to his commentary. He made us feel important as if it was his first day on the job. Is this tour good value.. Yes it certainly is Thank You Bob .
Thank you Pat and William for your kind words. So nice to hear that you had a relaxed day on your first tour in Adelaide. It was my pleasure to take you on a brief visit to our beautiful Adelaide Hills. We had visited many sights and covered most of the attractions even for a short period of time. Hope you plan another visit soon and explore other wine regions and attractions of South Australia. Take care.
It was the BEST! Cannot recommend more highly. The most interesting tour, with a fantastic guide, in a supremely comfortable car! The tour is tailor made to suit. We explored the Adelaide Hills, Hahndorf and snuck in a visit to Cleland Wildlife Park. We admired the view from Mount Lofty amongst lots of other places of interest en route. Such a highlight, that we booked again for a Barossa trip. Thanks Bob!
Thank you Paula for your kind words. It was such a pleasure to spend two days with you and Dougie. We managed to visit many sites and hidden gems of Adelaide hills and Barossa Valley. Safe travels and please send some photos when you get back to snowy Ireland. Take care.
A most enjoyable trip tailored to our choice of destinations. Bob was very knowledgeable and made us feel very relaxed enabling us to enjoy Mount Lofty, Nepenthe winery, Hahndorf town and the beautiful scenery within the Adelaide Hills.
Thank you Jan for a nice review. It was a short day but we managed to fit some of the best attractions and even a winery to sample some of cold climate wine varieties. Hope you enjoy Formula 1 Grand Prix and the rest of your trip in Australia.
A wonderful afternoon. We enjoyed our drive around The Hills up to Mt Lofty, we did a wine tasting at The Lane then ventured into Hahndorf for a nice walk around. We had time to do another tasting but as the temperature was in the high 30’s we did not really feel like it. We asked our driver Bob from SaviConnect for another suggestion well that was amazing he took us to a hidden gem where we had the best home made fruit ice cream. A wonderful way to end our busy day - thank you
Thank you Karen for your kind words and time for reviewing our service. Yes, a cold home made ice-cream was definitely a great solution on a very hot and humid day. Nice to hear you and your son had a great experience in beautiful Adelaide Hills. Hope you come and visit us again. Take care.
We had a super day in Adelaide Hills. Our driver/guide was knowledgeable about the city and its history and made the drive from the port to the hills interesting. Our stop at Mt. Lofty was disappointing because of the clouds, but our two stops at wineries were great. We learned a lot about the Adelaide Hills wine industry in comfortable tasting rooms. Hahndorf was a little too touristy for us, but our lunch at the German Arms was everything we hoped for. Our driver was prompt on picking us up. The car was comfortable and in excellent condition. Thanks for a beautiful day!
Thank you Barbara for your kind words. I am glad you had a great day in Adelaide Hills. It is disappointing that you did not have a chance to see Adelaide from Mt Lofty because of clouds. It is a really amazing view over Adelaide City and suburbs. German Arms is one of the best pubs to have a delicious German style food and beer. Wish you a safe and enjoyable traveling.
We were in Adelaide for the first time and therefore decided to go on a private tour. This was the best decision! We were contacted directly by the provider shortly after booking and were able to communicate our individual wishes immediately. There were three of us traveling with our 14 year old son. There was something for each of us. A visit to a winery, chocolate factory and tasting of local cheeses as well as a magnificent view of Adelaide have rounded off the tour. Bob our tour guide has been able to tell us a lot about Adelaide, the surrounding area and wineries. So if you are planning a super personal tour, this is the place for you. Thank you Andre for your kind words and such extensive review. Thank you also for doing in both languages. I am glad that everyone was happy and especially your son. I believe Melba's Chocolate Factory was his highlight for the day :) The weather was just perfect and made your day even more enjoyable. Safe travels and take care.
Bob provides a wonderful service, including old fashioned assistance like opening/closing doors for you and carrying your bags. We had a lovely day and were fortunate to hear his stories on life; so interesting!
Thank you Charlene for your kind words. It was a pleasure to meet you and Paul and being your host for a day. Thank you for choosing my company for your anniversary celebration. The day went really smoothly, the weather was perfect and I am glad that you enjoyed my service. I really hope I would have another opportunity to be your driver again. Take care and I wish you many more anniversaries together.
Bob talked with us and determined an itinerary for our day. He was fantastic in his selection and in providing the narration along the way. We had a great time and saw and learned a lot. Bob is very experienced in the area. He knows all about the area and history and businesses and happily shares it with you. What a great time
Thank you for your time reviewing my service. It was a real pleasure to meet you and be your host. Take care.
What a fabulous day we had in Eden Valley visiting Henshke Wines followed by Pike & Joyce for lunch in Adelaide Hills. Bob was just terrific walking me thru options for the day, timing & costs prior to our visit & on the morning we were to visit was out the front of our hotel waiting for us to go. Incredibly polite, timely & knowledgeable which made for the best day. Throughly recommend for any visit whilst in Adelaide
Thank you Vicky for your kind words and time writing this review. I am glad that your trip was successful even we had a quite distance to travel between wineries. How great was that you had a chance to manage to come in May to taste the icon of the Barossa, the 'Hill of Grace' as the only month available in the cellar door. Also you were blessed with an amazing sunny day that made your trip even more enjoyable. Take care.
