The guide was excellent. Her political science studies gave her the perfect background for providing context and perspective on the many government sites. But her love of art and history in general made the other sites more accessible and interesting.
That combination of political science grounding and a genuine love of art and history is a pretty rare mix in a guide, and it clearly made every stop richer for it
Our guide was knowledgeable and shared interesting facts about Ottawa and its Parliament. It was fun seeing the Rockcliff neighborhood and enjoyed the canal cruise.
The operator showed up at the hotel without a vehicle large enough to fit the whole group, so some had to walk to the next destination, missing part of the tour. The group was mainly seniors with limited walking ability, as explained on the booking, but the tour had too much walking, and some couldn't finish it. The tour guide was soft-spoken and had no mic, and was not heard by everyone on the tour. There were no building entries in the Sandhill area during the tour, so much of it was just seeing fences. The River Boat Tour was the best part as a different operator took over this part. I do not recommend this tour. Unfortunately, the tour was not worth the expense.
The guide was so personable and knowledgeable, the rest of our tour experience flowed from that engaging and upbeat connection. New information generated new questions and so on. This was a great introduction to the city of Ottawa, touching on its geography, history, politics, and socio-economics, while we surveyed the primary government buildings, ambassadors’ residences, and finished with a lovely narrated boat ride on the Rideau Canal aboard an electric boat for up to 60 passengers. The gentle 80s rock and Lionel Richie type music mix was a welcome ambiance as the boat made its way back near the end of an eventful tour.
