2- Hour Pottery Workshop and Studio Tour in Ojai

Description
Ojai has a 100-year history of ceramics. Our studio, located a mile from the city center, is surrounded by nature, in the midst of a fruit orchard. We are a working studio for many of the great artists in the Ojai Valley. Visitors may watch potters work, and may "try their hand" at a range of techniques. After making their pottery, they may may pay a small fee for our staff to trim, glaze and high-fire the work. This "finishing" work takes about 3 weeks. Visitors may also come back to glaze their OWN work. There is no charge for this. AND we will even ship your pieces anywhere in the country...

Wow! What an amazing experience. Our instructor Erin was so patient and provided valuable insight making our ideas come to life. This was my first time to use a wheel and I was able to knock out 5 pieces in 2 hours. I suggest going on a weekday since it was just my wife and I with Erin. Also, you need to schedule a second trip to glaze and finish your work. Ojai is amazing, so you won’t to come up with a good reason to head back.
So fun! Staff super knowledgeable and helpful. Let them help you! You’re going to love it. Location takes awhile to get to but it’s worth it.
this workshop is soooo much fun! staff is so helpful and friendly. they provided adequate levels of help tailored to your needs. they let you do your own thing while checking in constantly if you need help. my friend and i had so much fun and we'd definitely go back
Erin is one of the best ceramics instructors we've ever had the pleasure of learning from. We had the option to throw five pieces, each from a roughly one-pound ball of clay, and in our two-hour session we got a thorough demo plus threw about three pieces each. We're so pleased with what we learned and what we were able to create. One of us had even taken classes in college and still walked away having learned far more from Erin than from any previous class.
This is a review for the 2-hr workshop. The owner, staff, facilities and glazes are all wonderful. However, we were a bit disappointed that nearly the first hour of our 2-hr workshop was spent touring the facilities, leaving us with only 1 hour aka only 10 minutes a piece to make the 5 pieces we were promised. This made for a rushed and a bit of a frustrating experience as throwing on the wheel is challenging as is, and my boyfriend and I were only able to make 3 out of 5 pieces. A few others in our class remarked the same. I would suggest to management an optional tour for folks to join before or after the class instead of taking up paid workshop time. In addition, though it was advertised, it bumped us to be charged an additional $15 per piece to have our pieces trimmed, fired and glazed. We chose to finish 5 pieces, so that was an extra $75 on top of the $130 my boyfriend paid for our 2 tickets to the class. We would have preferred to have just paid more up front vs. have to shell out additional money at the end. All in all, we had a nice time and would take the workshop again if the experience is adjusted to be less tour, more workshop!
Studio was welcoming. Instructors were patient and kind and never took over your project. They would always ask to step in and help. Parking can be tricky.
I decided to be spontaneous sign up for this two hour Pottery class. Not only did we get the history of the studio and see the most beautiful art, but we had the best teacher in Liz. She was so patient and kind and didn't make us feel bad for not knowing how to throw on the wheel. Go with the idea of just having fun and playing with clay don't have any expectations and listen to Liz she will make it so you want to play with clay for the rest of your life.! have fun in ojai. I went alone and sat next to fun people, Okley and Alexis. It's so great to make things together and laugh. Thanks for being an awesome teacher Liz.
This was a wonderful experience led by a group of really kind and patient experts. They made it easy and fun to learn.
Very fun beginner’s group pottery class. You keep what you make. They offer glazing for an extra fee. You can pick up your creations in a week or have it mailed to you.
We had a great time! Two hours passed in a heartbeat as we worked, with help, to tame the balls of clay. This is absolutely a great activity for anyone - even someone who's not so great with their hands. For our group of 11 (with 2 7-year-olds) we had 3 potters from Firestick Pottery helping us. After a tour and discussion of the process we were given a wheel potting demonstration. Then, with as much or as little help as we wanted, we could make up to 5 pieces of pottery. If you live nearby, you can return to Firestick and for a small fee learn how to glaze your pieces. Since neither of us lived nearby we opted to have Firestick glaze our pieces for a fee of $15/piece. And, for a very reasonable charge, they will pack and send our completed pieces to us. My friend and I agreed we'd absolutely do this again!
