As Beijing’s most iconic landmark and a crown jewel of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the Forbidden City stands as a testament to China’s imperial grandeur. For every traveler to Beijing, a visit to this imperial palace is a must—but exploring it alone is tricky: not only are tickets hard to secure, its vast courtyards and similar‑looking halls can feel overwhelming without context. Our professional guide will unlock the stories behind its architecture and artifacts, turning a simple visit into a vivid journey through China’s royal past.
At the Forbidden City, your guide will lead you through its most important sites, starting with the Hall of Supreme Harmony—the largest and most grand imperial hall, once used for coronations and major ceremonies, with its intricate dragon carvings symbolizing imperial power. Next is the Hall of Central Harmony, where emperors rested and prepared before official events, its smaller scale balancing the grandeur of the first hall. You’ll then visit the Hall of Preserving Harmony, a space that hosted imperial exams and state banquets, showcasing the palace’s role in both governance and culture. Moving to the Inner Court (the imperial family’s private quarters).
You’ll then explore the Palace of Heavenly Purity, once the emperor’s bedroom and a site for important private audiences, followed by the Hall of Union, which stored imperial seals and represented the unity of the state. Finally, you’ll step into the Palace of Earthly Tranquility, the empress’s former residence, with its delicate decorations reflecting the elegance of royal family life. The tour wraps up at the Imperial Garden, a serene oasis of pavilions, rockeries, and ancient trees— the perfect spot to reflect on the history you’ve just learned before the 2-hour guided experience ends.
After the tour, your guide will give you recommendations for your next destination; if you opted for the option with round trip transfer, your driver will be ready to take you back to your hotel, ensuring your day remains stress-free. This tour isn’t just about seeing the Forbidden City—it’s about understanding it, making it ideal for time-limited travelers who want to soak up the palace’s magic without missing its most meaningful details.

John was very knowledgeable and fun guide to walk around the Forbidden city. All the best BbBJ you were great!
Great experience in Forbidden city with the guide Padma! The time of the tour was excellent, not so tiring and at the same time we saw all necessary places. Padma was very friendly, kind and smart. She speaks English well, so everything was understandable 😊 Very much recommended 🙌
Lily was amazing from start to finish! She contacted me via WhatsApp the day prior to our visit to confirm and let me know how to locate her. She was so welcoming. I really enjoyed the 2 hour tour; it was enough time to see and appreciate the Forbidden City and it allowed us to be able to fit in other activities for our day. Her attitude was fun and she was so knowledgeable about the history. 10/10 would recommend, if you don’t book with Lily - you are missing out! Bonus: she knew all the great photo ops! Lily is a rockstar!
We had a great experience with Jimmy as our guide! He was friendly, knowledgeable, and shared so many interesting facts and stories that really brought everything to life. We learned far more than we would have if we’d explored on our own, and it made the whole experience much more meaningful. Glad we chose this tour and would definitely recommend it to others considering it.
Incredible place, must-do. Padma was very knowledgeable and so nice. Highly recommend this activity with this company.
Great Lucia that you could guide us during our short visit in Beijing. Interesting and informative guide.
I’m so glad I didn’t just buy the admission tickets and visit the forbidden city ourselves . Because the architecture is only half of what makes this place so fascinating. We would have missed out on the real history, stories and details which bring this palace to life. Susan offered that second critical historical component extremely well. Not only does she have almost 20 years experience as a tour guide, but she’s also a native Beijingian. So she was clearly knowledgeable and genuinely passionate about her city. What really set this experience apart was the level of care and flexibility. Both Susan and our driver went completely above and beyond to ensure we had a seamless, stress-free experience! Beyond sharing her deep knowledge of the Forbidden City, they also handled all the transportation logistics—from hotel pickup to even a custom add on visit to the Temple of Heaven after and perfectly timed drop-off at Beijing South railway station. Just a worry-free, educational and fascinating day! Highly recommended! Book it 😀
