Was an amazing experience! Our guide Joel was extremely knowledgeable and was dedicated to us having a great learning experience and also being on time for our train back. Couldn’t have asked for anything more!
Joel was incredible. Very knowledgeable and did a great job explaining all of the intricacies of Machu Picchu in an easily digestible but informative way. The trip was extremely well organized. I got picked up and dropped off right in front of my Airbnb. The whole process was seamless and very enjoyable. I would definitely recommend Peru Trekkers if you are thinking of visiting Machu Picchu.
As recommended, we booked 2 months in advance. From that point the trip is in the organizers hands, in this case PeruTrekkers. They sent us the tickets the day before our trip to Macchu. The ticket entry time to the ruins was 7:00 am. The train they booked us left Ollantaytambo at 6:40 am. It is over a 1.5 hour trip to get from Ollantaytambo to Macchu. This caused us immense stress especially because it is explicitly stated that you have a 30 min window to enter Macchu and it is strictly enforced. We tried to call the contacts provided (Peru trekkers number via viator) to inquire with no response to our calls. Through messages we received very unhelpful responses. They refused to address that there was a timing discrepancy and just reiterated the contents of our tickets. As there were no earlier train options we had to go with the train that was booked for us. We arrived to Aguascalientes at 8:10 am where our guide was waiting for us and he was very frustrated with us, thinking we had arrived over an hour late. He told us that that we would need to explain to the Macchu entrance personnel why we were so late. There was no person who was accountable for the mistake except for us, when we had no part in booking these tickets. We arrived to Macchu at 8:40 am and were denied entry for the tickets we had, of course. We were lucky that the “controller” at Macchu who deals with these issues allowed us delayed entry if we waited until 9:30 am, which was not bad. But there was no help through this process by our guide, he didn’t stay near us or help translate for us if needed. We were admitted at 10 am thankfully (because at this point we were so grateful to just be allowed in.) Our guide took us around and gave us historical context and he was fine but the stress of entry definitely took a toll on our whole experience. Overall, I would recommend booking your own tickets and if you want a guide, hire one at the entrance they are all very kind and enthusiastic. I am beyond disappointed in this experience and it is not cheap. Visiting Macchu Picchu was a lifelong dream of mine and a once in a lifetime trip and it was significantly negatively impacted by the incompetence of this booking agency.
Dear Traveller, We are truly sorry to hear that your experience caused you stress. However, we would like to clarify a few important points for future travelers. Your reservation was made very close to your travel date, during a period of extremely high demand for Machu Picchu tickets. Despite the limited availability, our team worked hard to secure the required services and guarantee your visit to Machu Picchu. The conditions, schedules, and ticket details were communicated prior to your visit, and our goal throughout the process was to ensure that you would be able to enter Machu Picchu successfully. As your own review mentions, you were ultimately able to visit the site and complete the guided tour. We understand that the timing situation created concern, and for that we sincerely apologize. Nevertheless, the circumstances were related to the limited availability and operational conditions at the time of booking, rather than a lack of effort from our team. We remained committed to making your visit possible despite the challenges. We appreciate your comments, as they help us continue improving our services. We are also pleased that you were able to fulfill your dream of visiting Machu Picchu and that your visit ultimately took place. We wish you all the best in your future travels. Thank you
We did the Machu Picchu Circuit 2 guided tour (privat) at 6am in the morning. Joel was a great Guide, to be honest the best one we had in Peru so far. He texted us one day prior the tour and offered a briefing in our hotel. The morning of the tour he picked us up in time and together we took the bus up to Machu Picchu. Once we arrived, Joel gave us a lot of information and he could answer all of our questions in great detail. He gave us more than enough time taking photos and enjoying the great atmosphere of Machu Picchu. We also did Circuit 3 one day before, but we weren't that happy with the guide we had before. So the next time we would definitly ask for Joel again!
Lizandro was a wonderful tour guide, who answered all our questions. He was very thorough in his explanations and made the experience of Machu Picchu exceptional.
Excellent experience with joel guzman highly recommend it!!!
