The sweet-spot months
June to August offers a great balance — high but not overwhelming water, lush scenery and pleasant dry weather, ideal for the falls and safaris.
High water (Feb–May)
After the rains the falls thunder at their most powerful and misty; views can be obscured by spray, and rafting and the Devil’s Pool are limited.
Low water (Aug–Jan)
The falls shrink but clear viewing and photography improve, and white-water rafting and the Devil’s Pool open up.
For safaris
The dry season (roughly July to October) is best for Chobe game viewing, as animals gather at the river.
For the Devil’s Pool
The Devil’s Pool is only open in the low-water season, roughly August to January, depending on the year.
For rafting
White-water rafting is best in the low-water months (about August to December), when the most rapids run.
