Know before you go
Short, straight answers to the questions every Abu Dhabi visitor asks before booking.
The sweet-spot months
October to April brings warm, sunny days ideal for sightseeing, the desert and the beaches — the prime time to visit Abu Dhabi.
Winter (Nov–Mar)
Warm, dry and pleasant, perfect for the Grand Mosque, desert safaris, theme parks and the Corniche; the best and busiest season.
Summer (Jun–Sep)
Very hot and humid, often over 40°C; focus on indoor attractions, malls, the Louvre and water parks, and do the desert early or late.
Shoulder (Apr–May, Oct)
Warm and still pleasant, with fewer crowds either side of the peak winter season.
Events & the F1
The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix (around November–December) and winter festivals are spectacular but busy — book well ahead.
Dress and customs
The UAE is welcoming but conservative; dress modestly at the Grand Mosque and respect Ramadan when visiting in that period.
One day
The Grand Mosque, a city tour and a desert safari.
Two days
Add Yas Island and the Louvre.
Three days
The sweet spot: culture, theme parks, and the desert or Dubai.
Four to five days
Add Al Ain, the Liwa Desert and the beaches.
A week or more
Combine Abu Dhabi with Dubai and the wider UAE.
Travelling with kids
Mix theme parks, water parks and a gentle safari.
Ride apps & taxis
Affordable taxis, Careem and Uber are the easiest way to get around Abu Dhabi’s spread-out sights.
Tour transfers
Most city tours, safaris and Yas Island trips include hotel (or Dubai) pickup.
Car hire
A rental car suits those wanting freedom for Al Ain, Liwa and self-paced sightseeing.
Hop-on hop-off & buses
A hop-on hop-off bus links the main sights, and city buses are cheap with a Hafilat card.
On foot
The Corniche promenade is lovely to walk, but the city overall is car-oriented.
From the airport
Abu Dhabi Airport (AUH) is about 30–40 minutes from the centre by taxi or transfer.
Dress for the mosque
The Grand Mosque requires modest dress — long sleeves and trousers/skirts, and a headscarf for women (abayas are available).
UAE dirham
The UAE uses the dirham (AED); cards are widely accepted, but carry some cash for the souks, tips and small vendors.
Buy park combos
Yas Island combo tickets across Ferrari World, Warner Bros. World and Yas Waterworld save money.
