Fotostopp: Drakenstein Gefängnis. 1982 wurde Mandela vom Hochsicherheitsgefängnis auf Robben Island, einer kleinen Insel in der Tafelbucht, in das Gefängnis Pollsmoor in Tokai, Kapstadt, verlegt. Von dort wurde Mandela am 9. Dezember 1988 in das damalige Victor-Verster-Gefängnis verlegt, wo er in einem Privathaus auf dem Gefängnisgelände lebte. Victor Verster, ein Farmgefängnis, wurde oft als Sprungbrett für die Freilassung von politischen Gefangenen mit geringerem Risiko verwendet. Mandela verbrachte weitere 14 Monate im Victor Verster (jetzt Drakenstein) Gefängnis bis zu seiner Freilassung am 11. Februar 1990. Am Tag seiner Freilassung umstellten Reporter aus der ganzen Welt das Gefängnis und machten das Gefängnis weltweit bekannt.

I had the best time doing this tour. It was definitely value for money. We drank so much wine in every stop. The portions were generous for a tasting. Charles was also very entertaining and organized. Everything went smoothly and on time. Tando was also a very safe driver. You would have to have your electronic voucher printed at your pick-up point, then ride the hop on-hop off bus to V&A Waterfront. I wish this was indicated in the booking summary. I wouldn't have known had I not been approached by the hop on/off driver.
Derrick and Mo were excellent throughout our wine tour. They were both friendly, attentive and always had a smile. Derrick was knowledgeable, welcoming and very open to questions, while Mo made sure the journey was comfortable, safe and enjoyable. They created a relaxed atmosphere and made the whole day feel well organised and fun. I would highly recommend them both. I would 100% recommend this especially if you get the guys. The only issue was the email of the pickup location was off slightly.

The trip is pretty complete, we went to three different cellars, having lunch in one of them. The guide, Derek, was amazing, he was constantly giving information, fun facts and history; which made the whole trip way more interesting. The driver Mo was also great, approachable and always making the stops on time. There was no admission fee besides the price paid for the tour. But lunch is not included, so budget for about R150/200 per person besides the tour price. We left the last pick-up point at around 8:50am, and got to our first stop at 9:40am more or less. We got back to Cape Town at around 18:00pm, making it a total of ~9 hours. The atmosphere was nice as well, we went on a weekday, so there weren’t too many people in the cellars besides those who were on the tour (it was maybe 30 people total). I recommend this activity for those who want to avoid driving for the wine tastings, and who want a day pre-planned for them.

The views are stunning and the guide is very knowledgeable! Speaking of pick-up - we didn’t know that the bus departs at exact time and doesn’t wait for even 3 min, we accidentally learnt that the bus had departed and was on another stop and if we had been late for even 2 min (we went there by another touristic bus), we would have missed our trip

Great tasting experience! It didnt feel rush and the bus is very comfortable. Also got a bit of a tour of the town and history.
