Es ist das drittgrößte Gebäude in Teotihuacan, einer alten mesoamerikanischen Stadt, deren Ruinen sich in Mexiko befinden. Das Gebäude besteht aus sieben Körpern aus Talud-Tablero und ein Teil seiner Westfassade wurde zu Beginn des 3. Jahrhunderts mit Skulpturen verziert, die die Federschlange darstellen, eine der ältesten und wichtigsten Gottheiten der mesoamerikanischen Völker, später Quetzalcoatl genannt.
Die Sonnenpyramide wurde hauptsächlich für zeremonielle und religiöse Zwecke verwendet. Es wird angenommen, dass es verwendet wurde, um Rituale in Bezug auf Sonne, Regen und Fruchtbarkeit durchzuführen, da diese Elemente grundlegend für das Weltbild der teotihuacanischen Kultur waren. Darüber hinaus machte es seine Lage im Zentrum der Stadt und seine imposante Präsenz zu einem Brennpunkt der Gemeinde, wo wichtige Zeremonien und Veranstaltungen abgehalten wurden. Es ist eine der symbolträchtigsten Strukturen der präkolumbischen Zivilisation in Mesoamerika. Diese Pyramide ist die größte in Teotihuacan und eine der größten in Mesoamerika, was die Bedeutung dieser Zivilisation zu dieser Zeit widerspiegelt.
Die Mondpyramide bildet die nördliche Begrenzung des Totendamms, was ihr eine sehr symbolische Bedeutung verleiht, und ist das bemerkenswerteste Element eines der harmonischsten städtischen Räume der Stadt, der sogenannten Plaza de la Luna. Dieser große Raum, der von 13 Fundamenten mit typisch teotihuacánischer Architektur umgeben ist und einst komplett bemalt war, war ein unschlagbarer Rahmen für öffentliche Rituale. Am Fuße der Pyramide befindet sich Struktur A, eingerahmt von zwei Fundamenten, in deren Inneren sich neun Altäre befinden, die an den Wänden angeordnet sind, plus einer in der Mitte, die die Himmels- und Interkardinalrichtung und das Zentrum des Universums symbolisieren.
Ein Raum, in dem wir über Themen sprechen, die mit Obsidianarbeit und der Größe, dem Angebot und der Diversifizierung des Teotihuacan Valley zusammenhängen. Handgefertigte Stücke im Teotihuacan Valley, von Handwerkern kreiert und mit großer Professionalität und Sorgfalt entworfen. An diesem Punkt können Sie eine der repräsentativsten und originellsten Pflanzen Mexikos, die dem Menschen zugute kommen, "der Maguey", eine der am häufigsten verwendeten Pflanzen seit dem alten Mesoamerika, ausführlich erklären. Einige berauschende Getränke wie Pulque oder Aguamiel werden daraus gewonnen. Es ist zu beachten, dass die Verwendung dieser Pflanze aus vorspanischer Zeit stammt. Seit dieser Zeit war es nicht nur für die daraus hergestellten Getränke berühmt, sondern auch für seine vielen medizinischen Eigenschaften.

Tomás made this one of the best tour experiences we've ever had. The tour company was very responsive to our questions before the trip, which set a great tone from the start. He picked us up punctually at 7am and reached out the night before to make sure we were prepared — he even brought an umbrella for my fair-skinned daughter, who came home without a single sunburn. What really set him apart was his flexibility. When I decided mid-tour to walk the Avenue of the Dead rather than drive to the Sun Pyramid, he rolled with it completely without making us feel rushed or like we were disrupting anything. Despite that, he still made sure we saw everything the tour had to offer. His knowledge of the site was impressive and he kept sharing context and history throughout the day. The day ran very long — entirely due to our own pace — and he stayed professional and warm the entire time through a very late return drive. Couldn't recommend him more highly.

My wife and I were picked up by our driver about two hours away from our excursion. The ride was smooth and entertaining to talk to our driver. He offered to stop to get breakfast if needed. Once at the excursion we met our tour guide who was one of the excavators on site. He was very knowledgeable and spoke both English and Spanish very well. We were really happy with our tour. Definitely wear comfortable clothes, shoes and a hat. Not many places to find shade.

What a spectacular experience this was! We couldn’t have asked for better hosts than Josué and Monserrat. This was a very special journey exploring the history and culture of the wonder that is Teotihuacan. Our guides made it exceed our expectations. Everything was smooth and comfortable from the very first moment. Thanks to our new friends in Monserrat and Josué, we left Teotihuacan with greater knowledge and appreciation for the beauty of this magical place. My trip to see the Theotihuacan archeological site and pyramids was terrific! Our driver was excellent, very safe and very friendly. He offered educational videos to watch regarding Mexican culture and history. Our tour guide at Theotihuacan was also fantastic. He was very friendly and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend this experience. Be advised it’s roughly 2.5 hour drive each way to and from Queretaro. Bring a wide brim hat and lots of water.

The driver went out of his way to help me. Gave us information on the way down. The guide was very knowledgeable and the length of time at the pyramids was just right. Lunch was very nice. A long day but well worth it.

I thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Be advised that it is a 2.5 hour car ride both ways to and from. Our driver was very good, very safe and super friendly too. Our tour guide Alberto was excellent, and very knowledgeable. He works at the archeological site so he knows of what he speaks. The gift shop and restaurant stops on the way home are very enjoyable. Well worth it for me. Highly recommend.

We had an amazing time on this tour. The driver, Josué was on time, friendly and spoke great English. He was accommodating and clear the whole tour. The site was absolutely amazing and unforgettable. And it was made even better by our guide, Tomás. He was very knowledgeable, friendly, engaging and fun. He spoke very clear English and brought additional illustrations of the site, historical photos and more that added such rich context to the history of the site. We felt very lucky to have him as our guide. The only downside to this part of the tour was that once it was over, we didn’t have any time to explore the site on our own. We had to move on to the next portion of the tour. We could have spent much more time exploring and contemplating the history of the site on our own. However the next section of the tour; the obsidian workshop was fantastic. We received a private demonstration of how the crafts are made, got samples of some delicious tequila and had access to a spectacular shop with lots of beautiful crafts. We were glad that we were able to pick up a couple of souvenirs from the smaller stands while we were at the site to support them too, but again we had very little time to actually browse there. This is understandable given the time it takes to get to and from Queretaro and to lunch. Finally the buffet lunch was good, there was plenty of food and we only had to pay for drinks and the waiters tip. Josué got us back safely at about 5pm. Overall excellent tour and we would absolutely recommend it to anyone, especially those who love ancient history.
