Mzcheta ist eine der ältesten Städte Georgiens in der Nähe von Tiflis. Mzcheta war vom 3. Jahrhundert v. Chr. Bis zum 5. Jahrhundert n. Chr. Hauptstadt des frühen georgischen Königreichs Iberia. Hier akzeptierten die Georgier 317 das Christentum. Das Kloster Jvari ist ein georgisch-orthodoxes Kloster aus dem 6. Jahrhundert in der Nähe von Mzcheta. Die große Kirche repräsentiert den Höhepunkt der architektonischen Typologie. Es ist ein wahres architektonisches Meisterwerk des frühen Mittelalters mit Blick auf den Zusammenfluss der Flüsse Aragvi und Mtkvari von der Spitze des Hügels. Die Kathedrale von Svetitskhoveli wurde im 11. Jahrhundert erbaut, obwohl der Ort selbst noch älter ist und aus dem frühen 4. Jahrhundert stammt. Das Denkmal hat ein längliches Kreuz, das den Himmel zu berühren scheint. Die Kathedrale ist das zweitgrößte Kirchengebäude in Georgien und gehört zur UNESCO. Der Samtavro-Klosterkomplex wurde im 11. Jahrhundert erbaut. Es enthält das Grab von Königin Nana und Mirian III, dem König von Iberia, die das Christentum als offizielle Religion in Georgien etablierten.

I really enjoyed this tour to Mtskheta, the old capital of Georgia. It was a beautiful and peaceful trip, and the place feels very special with its rich history and amazing views. The churches and historic sites were impressive, especially Jvari Monastery and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral. The tour was well organized, comfortable, and not too tiring. Our tour guide, Nino, was wonderful — very friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about Georgian history and culture. She made the experience even more interesting and enjoyable. It was a great chance to learn more about Georgia while enjoying a calm atmosphere outside Tbilisi. I especially liked the panoramic views and the unique spiritual feeling of the city.
