Sam was great explaining how 1) cocoa plants got to Mexico and S America and 2) how Mexican recipes were developed to include chocolate not only in sweets but other dishes as well. What really embellished the tour was the extra discussion of local society, culture, and history of San Miguel. Great tour for education, tasty treats and taking in the extraordinary beauty of San Miguel de Allende.
Fabulous tour…excellent chocolate tastings and also San Miguel history….couldnt have asked for a better guide….
Sam was very knowledgeable on chocolate and local history and made the trip a pleasure. Had a fun afternoon and got many tips for the rest of out trip.
The walking tour is easy & does not require a lot of walking. There are a lot of seating down breaks during the tour.
Awesome educational experience! Tasty too! Learned about the cultural and religious background of cacao and its journey to Spain and France.
Sam was a fantastic tour guide and taught us so much. Loved all the history of San Miguel.
My friend and I had a great time on this tour. Sam is knowledgeable, friendly and fun. We visited 4 places to taste difference types of food using chocolate (the 5th stop didn’t work out because it’s a tiny place and we were 10 people). I have dietary limitations and he offered alternatives at each place. It was nice to get history of foods as well as the city. We moved at a leisurely pace and enjoyed the sites between stops. Highly recommend this tour to anyone.
Sam was outstanding! His knowledge, warmth, passion, and expertise made learning about Chocolate and this exceptional city both fun and educational! Highly recommend! Come hungry! Thank you, Sam for sharing your insight and love for all things San Miguel with our family!
Went on a fun and informative tour with Sam. He was very knowledgeable not only about chocolate and how it's made, but a lot of the history of San Miguel and the surrounding areas. You will try not only delicious chocolate in candy form, but also in mole' and ice cream as well. Sam was awesome and very helpful with general knowledge and questions regarding our stay as well.
Sam, our tour guide, was amazing—very knowledgeable and clearly passionate about what he does. However, I think the touring company could do a better job selecting more unique stops. The locations included in the tour felt fairly average, commercialized, and common, and they came across as choices made mainly to fit within a budget.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience and for highlighting Sam’s passion and knowledge—he truly loves what he does, and we’re delighted you enjoyed his presentation and storytelling. We’re sorry to hear that the stops didn’t feel as distinctive as you hoped. Our Chocolate and Cobblestones tour is designed to showcase the history and flavors of Mexico's most famous creation; cacao, at carefully chosen venues that highlight the character of San Miguel de Allende, but we understand that some guests are looking for something more unique. If you’d like to explore a different side of the city, our Evening Food Tour features more upscale and innovative dining experiences that might be a better fit. We’d love the chance to welcome you back and show you another layer of San Miguel’s culinary scene.
