Wir besuchen den 1880 gegründeten Zentralmarkt, wo Sie die Gelegenheit haben, etwas über die Grundlagen der costaricanischen Landwirtschaft und Alltagskultur zu erfahren. Dieser historische Markt ist ein lebendiger Mittelpunkt des lokalen Lebens und bietet einen Einblick in die Traditionen und Bräuche, die die costaricanische Küche seit Generationen geprägt haben. Während wir den Markt erkunden, entdecken Sie die wichtigsten Zutaten, treffen lokale Händler und erhalten Einblick in die landwirtschaftlichen Praktiken, die die Region am Leben erhalten. Wir werden die historische Kathedrale von San José besuchen, deren Ursprünge auf das Jahr 1788 zurückgehen. Diese Kathedrale war Teil eines großen Plans, der den Bau von fünf Kirchen vorsah, die ein Kreuz bilden, ein Symbol tiefer religiöser Bedeutung. Die im romanischen Stil erbaute Kathedrale zeichnet sich durch wunderschöne architektonische Details und eine heitere Atmosphäre aus. Dazu gehört ein Besuch der Eingangshalle des Nationaltheaters von Costa Rica. Im Herzen von San Jose bleibt das Nationaltheater (Teatro Nacional) eine der beliebtesten Touristenattraktionen der Hauptstadt. “ Das reich verzierte neoklassizistische Theater gilt als das schönste historische Gebäude in San Jose und ist bekannt für sein exquisites Interieur, das mit aufwendigen Möbeln und wunderschönen Wandgemälden dekoriert ist.
Wir besuchen das Mr. Sloth Coffee Shop und gehen in den zweiten Stock, wo Sie eine hausgemachte Mahlzeit mit Tamales nach alten Kolonialrezepten genießen können, die liebevoll von einer einheimischen Familie zubereitet werden. Sie haben auch die Möglichkeit, einzigartige Gerichte wie Bananen-Ceviche, Guanacastecan-Ceviche oder Pejibaye-Ceviche zu probieren – authentische prähispanische Speisen. Das Erlebnis geht weiter mit einem praktischen Kochkurs, in dem Sie lernen, wie man handwerklich hergestellte Schokoladen-Empanadas herstellt, während Sie in traditionellen Vandolas gebrühten Spezialitätenkaffee genießen.

Nice tour across San Jose markets and historic areas. Guides were really good. Fruits and ice cream at the market was delicious. Food at the end was very good. One suggestion would be to spread out the food a little bit more. I was disappointed there were no food samplings from the small sodas in the market. Went back and sampled some
This is a wonderful and insightful tour, and provides a great introduction to central San Jose. I was pleased to not only see the well-known Public Market, but also the nearby Mercado Borbón, an authentic market for the locals and a non-commercial (no souvenirs) experience. Our tour included sampling fruits and explanations about how Ticos prepare and eat them. t the Sloth Coffee House, we also were able to eat a traditional Costa Rican pork tamale and prepare our own sweet dessert. A great experience packed into just a few hours!

We had a fantastic time with Marcelo on this tour. Tried several exotic (to me!) fruits at the farmers market and he was so informative about origins and history. The walking portion past several National monuments was interesting. We ended at Mr Sloth with local dishes and coffee. Exceeded my expectations. A great way to spend the morning.
