1999 wurde Robben Island in die UNESCO-Welterbeliste aufgenommen. Robben Island liegt 12 Kilometer vor der Küste von Kapstadt in Südafrika. Jahrzehntelang war hier ein Hochsicherheitsgefängnis untergebracht, in dem während der Apartheid politische Gefangene wie der Gründer der Demokratischen Partei und andere inhaftiert waren.
Im Mai 1913 stellte die Regierung den Staat Kirstenbosh für die Errichtung des Nationalen Botanischen Gartens in Kirstenbosh zur Verfügung und erklärte sich bereit, 1.000 Opera Annun beizusteuern. Die Bothanical Society wurde am 10. Juni 1913 gegründet und hielt am 31. Juli 1913 ihre Hauptversammlung ab.
Im Jahr 1685 übergab Hendrik Adriaan Van Rheede bei einem jährlichen Besuch am Kap Drakenstein das Gelände von Groot Constantia an Simon Van der Stel, den ersten Gouverneur des Kap der Guten Hoffnung. Van der Stel erbaute das Haus und nutzte das Land zum Anbau von Wein und anderen Obstsorten sowie zur Viehzucht.
