Puffin- und Meereswildtier-Bootstour

What an amazing experience! The trip out to the puffin colony was fabulous. We visited NFLD relatively late in the season, so we knew there was a chance we wouldn't see a whole heck of a lot of puffins, but the crew on the boat made sure we got the best experience we could. We saw sunfish, a minke whale, and puffins, puffins and more puffins. The crew regaled us with information about the lifestyle of the little creatures, how they mate, how they survive the pesky seagulls, what they do during the winter etc. They also sang some great local tunes while we were out on the water and of course took us through the formalities of the 'screeching in' procedure....a hilarious and complicated process that requires good listening skills as well as a willingness to get up close and personal with a small seabird's rear-end!!! I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THIS TO EVERONE

PLEASE READ THIS. Although listed as a Halifax tour, this boat is actually 30-40 minutes away in another town. I booked on Viator and nowhere does it mention this unless you google map it. It also DOES NOT mention a shuttle service, location of it or time. WE spoke to a few on our ship who also were not informed of this. When we got off the ship we did not know, so we called the company. They told us about the shuttle, and we told them we would be there in 5 minutes, however they left. A taxi was $160 one way so we declined. Now they will not give me my money back. To me they are a little deceptive, knowing many will choose not to go when they hear how far away they are. BTW- eliminate Puffins from the description, those on the tour came back and told us they left already.

The ride over is not included in the ticket price and that needs to be more clear in the booking. The tile included whale watching. The whales had long gone for this tour. The title was changed after our tour. The actual tour was wonderful. It was fun, comfortable and very enjoyable.

Loved it. Personable, friendly and entertaining crew. Great day to be on the water. Not too hot and no rain. Learned a lot about the wonderful life of a Puffin. Thanks for the education, songs and entertainment. Captain Al should write a book. We loved his stories & jokes. You epitomized the friendly Newfoundlander. Thanks so much.

This is a really fun trip. The crew is knowledgeable and very entertaining. They sang us songs, made sure we all got to see the Puffins and the lone Sunfish. They also shared information about the geology of the islands. Recommended for adults and older kids.

An unforgettable puffin watching tour and one of the absolute highlights of our time in Newfoundland. We booked online directly with the company well ahead of time and had no issues at all, and check-in on the day was super easy. The staff were lovely from the moment we arrived, and the souvenir shop was well appointed with a huge range of puffin merchandise, which made the experience feel fun before we even boarded. The tour boat itself was comfortable, and the guides were fantastic, full of information, engaging, and generous with their knowledge throughout the trip. While we had come especially to see puffins, the tour was so much more than that and we saw so many amazing birds, including razorbills, kittiwakes, and plenty more, all around an incredible island sanctuary where thousands of birds were flocking around us. At times we honestly did not know where to look. We were also lucky enough to see a whale, which made the day even more special. An iceberg had been seen the day before and, although we missed the main one, there were smaller pieces of ice that the crew brought on board for us to look at, which was such a memorable touch. We had also been hoping to get screeched in while in Newfoundland, so having the chance to do it out on the Atlantic and become honorary Newfoundlanders was brilliant. This was an amazing trip from start to finish, and we were so happy we chose this company to travel with. Highly recommended!!!

Such a great experience! Janice and Dianne were superb and so helpful! The ferry was incredible! Was so magical seeing thd Puffins for the first time! Will definitely be back next time im here!

The Gatherall's Puffin and Whale Watch Cruise was a splendid trip. The entire crew of the vessel and the shoreside support crew made sure that we had a fun and informative experience. The boat is very comfortable and well designed to give everyone on board great viewing opportunities. The "tour guides" are very skilled and personable and keep the guests informed about the remarkable variety of birds and other wildlife encountered. Our trip started off with a magnificent bald eagle who showed up as if on cue. We also saw thousands of seabirds like murres and, of course, puffins. A minke whale and an ocean sunfish (mola mola) also decided to grace us with an appearance. As an "add on" part of the trip you can choose to participate in a fun little ceremony to become an Honorary Newfoundlander. For the laughs alone it is worth the extra charge. The young folks conducting the ceremony keep the crowd laughing and seem to genuinely enjoy the whole thing. It was fun and the shot of Newfoundland Screech Rum to top off the ceremony was an extra, well received, treat. Everything about the experience with Gatherall's was done in a most upbeat and efficient manner right from the point of making the reservation, through to the pick-up process, to the boarding, the trip itself, the little ceremony, and the disembarking. It is easy to feel that everyone on the Gatherall's team has your safety and enjoyment as their watchword. The enthusiasm of the crew and staff is contageous.
