Khor Virap ist die berühmteste Pilgerstätte Armeniens, da sie direkt mit der Annahme des Christentums verbunden ist. Als Staatsreligion wurde das Christentum in Armenien im Jahr 301 aufgrund von Bemühungen des Heiligen Gregor des Erleuchters angenommen, der, bevor er König Trdat den Dritten zum Christentum bekehrte, im Kerker gefangen gehalten wurde, über dem im 17. Jahrhundert eine Kirche des Klosters Khor Virap errichtet wurde. Vom Kloster aus kann man den atemberaubenden Blick auf den biblischen Berg Ararat bewundern.
Der Azat-Stausee, der in den Bergen verteilt ist, bringt Wasser und Himmel zusammen und schafft eine der beeindruckendsten und friedlichsten Aussichten Armeniens.
Der Garni-Tempel, der ein dreieckiges Kap überragt, ist das einzige erhaltene Beispiel der heidnischen Kultur in Armenien. Es ist eine Mischung aus griechisch-römischen und armenischen Stilen. König Trdat Der Erste ordnete den Bau des Tempels im ersten Jahrhundert n. Chr. an und widmete ihn dem Gott der Sonne.Nach der Annahme des Christentums im Jahr 301 verlor der heidnische Tempel seine Bedeutung und die Festung Garni wurde zur Sommerresidenz der Könige. Heutzutage befinden sich in der Nähe des Tempels die Ruinen des königlichen Palastes und das Badezimmer mit einer atemberaubenden Mosaikarbeit.
Das Kloster Geghard ist das unübertroffene Meisterwerk der armenischen Architektur des 13. Jahrhunderts. Einige der Kirchen der Anlage sind meisterhaft in einen riesigen Felsen gehauen. Von Anfang an hieß der Komplex Ayrivank (Höhlenkloster), später wurde er in Geghard (Lanze) umbenannt, da die Lanze, die der römische Soldat zum Stechen der Seite Jesu Christi verwendete, in diesem Kloster seit vielen Jahrhunderten aufbewahrt wurde. Aufgrund ihrer Konstruktion ist die Geghardavank der beste Ort, um geistliche Lieder zu singen. Der Komplex ist reich an subtilen skulpturalen Verzierungen und vielen markanten Khachkars (Kreuzsteinen). Die Stätte ist in die Liste des UNESCO-Kulturerbe aufgenommen.

We had an absolutely wonderful experience on this tour! Everything was perfectly organized, and they were very punctual and fully committed to the schedule. She always made sure that everyone was comfortable, answered all our questions, and explained everything in a very interesting and clear way. Her warm personality and positive energy made the whole experience even more enjoyable. She truly went above and beyond to make our day special. Our driver, Khachik, was also excellent, professional, punctual, and drove very safely. We felt comfortable and relaxed during the entire journey. We went on an individual tour to the monasteries of Khor Virap, Noravank, Gegard and the Temple of Garni. Besides the main points of the tour, driver Arakel showed us many interesting places: the village with storks, the Azatic reservoir, beautiful views of mountain passes and Ararat. The company arranged for us to have lunch at the Noravanck monastery with a great view of the rocks. Overall, the tour went very well, if we book tours, it will only be in this campaign

I booked the private tour from Hyur’s official website - which is much cheaper than the one advertised on Tripadvisor (I suppose TA takes commission). The customer service contacted me three days prior to confirm the details and answered all kinds of my questions. The driver Arman was very professional and polite and went above and beyond to take me to bus station twice to purchase an intercity mini bus ticket. He couldn’t speak much English but whenever it’s something important he called his office to translate to me to make sure there is no misunderstanding. At each place, I got to spend as much time as I wanted and enjoyed the great views and architectures of the monasteries. Highly recommend this private tour to people who want to travel at their own pace.
