Gleich um die Ecke von Bug Light befindet sich eine Statue des Bogens eines Freiheitsschiffs. Während des Zweiten Weltkriegs wurden hier viele Schiffe gebaut, darunter die S.S. Jeremiah O'Brien, eine beliebte Touristenattraktion in San Francisco und eines der wenigen überlebenden Liberty Ships.
Sehen Sie Portland Head Light, Maines ältesten und berühmtesten Leuchtturm, vom Wasser aus. Dieser Leuchtturm wurde von George Washington in Auftrag gegeben und ab 1791 gebaut. Er ist seit mehr als zwei Jahrhunderten ein wichtiges Navigationssignal und Wahrzeichen der Region. Der Leuchtturm hat Hurrikanen und globalen Konflikten standgehalten. Deutsche U-Boote versenkten in den schwindenden Tagen des Zweiten Weltkriegs ein Schiff der US-Marine nur 24 km vor dem Scheinwerfer.
Fort Gorges ist die auffälligste Steinfestung, die den Hafen von Portland schützt. Es ist ein Wahrzeichen, das von weiten Teilen der Casco Bay aus sichtbar ist. Genau deshalb wurde es auf diesem Felsvorsprung in der Nähe von Peaks und Little Diamond Islands und dem Festland selbst erbaut. Das Fort konnte mehr als ein Dutzend Kanonen auf Angreifer abfeuern, die von einem möglichen Seeweg kamen, wurde aber nie im aktiven Kampf eingesetzt. Technologische Fortschritte in der Artillerie während des Bürgerkriegs machten sie zu verletzlich, um nützlich zu sein. Das Fort diente während des Zweiten Weltkriegs als Lager für die Armee, als Unterwasserminen, elektromagnetische Sensorkabel und andere Systeme eingesetzt wurden, um Portland und Casco Bay vor deutschen Angriffen zu schützen. Denken Sie daran, Portland war während des Zweiten Weltkriegs die Heimat einer großen Werft und der Beginn einer Pipeline, die Öl nach Montreal und in den Osten Kanadas liefert. Daher war die Region auch in moderneren Konflikten von hoher strategischer Bedeutung.

Best tour of our trip!!! Nick and Myles were absolutely incredible hosts, answered all of our crazy historical questions, accommodated all of our needs, and were so great with the grandkids! The private sunset cruise was a great experience for 3 couples. Although our weather didn’t cooperate, and we didn’t see the sunset, we still enjoyed the ride around Casco Bay. The boat was equipped with a covering to keep us dry on a rainy evening. Jack, our host, really made the experience a positive one. He was great to talk with and answer all of our questions about the area. Thanks to Jack for your knowledge and humor with our group! Fun time!

Chef David O'Brien made one of the best six-course meals my husband and I have had in years while accommodating my seafood allergy. Maria was the perfect Deck Hand, checking on us often enough but not too much, provided great knowledge of Portland with a ton of history on each island we passed. Captain Nick gave us a smooth ride for the full three hours on a clean, wood boat setup for a romantic dinner for two. The whole evening was executed flawlessly, with Dylan and Kim remaining in touch leading up to the experience and after to ensure we had everything we needed. Thank you!

Best way to see the coastline and lighthouses in Portland! It was nice having the tour all to ourselves. Our guide was very informative and knowledgeable. The boat was nice and clean, and they provided a speaker for us to play our music and blankets. A great experience, definitely recommend!

This experience was amazing! We just got married and this was the first time where we just got to sit back and relax since the wedding. Captain Zach and Deckhand Lauren were incredible! They showed us all the lighthouses and were knowledgeable! They answered all our questions. We really enjoyed our time with each other and the crew on the boat!

For some reason, I do not see my old review. Our boat trip was amazing. Our food was locally sourced and delicious. The day was perfect providing my husband and myself alone time. We enjoyed every minute cruising right by local shorelines. We were educated in some of the local landmarks, as well. Great thing to experience and get a real feel for local fisheries and fishing industry in the area. I highly recommend this excursion!

This was our 2nd trip aboard this boat, and we loved it just as much as the previous time. A comfortable, relaxing, and informative trip around Casco Bay, with wine and a beautiful charcuterie plate. The captain and first mate were excellent - was a highlight of our weekend trip.
While we were concerned this would be “hokey,” any time on a boat has to be good. Were we delighted! Our Captain, Zach, was extremely professional and completed focused on safe travel and the perfect vantage point of each area we toured. First Mate Jason, a native like Zach, was a wealth of information and history of the area. Jason had a way of telling you enough, but then understanding proper hosting by allowing plenty of gaps in his stories to allow Hubs and I to chat alone. Chef Jody’s six-course meal was splendid. It was fine restaurant quality made with local-sourced ingredients, beautifully plated. We wished we’d had a lighter lunch, but take-out boxes assured nothing went to waste. We’d consider this a true Portland must!
