Das kommunistische Regime hat im gesamten Ostblock starke Spuren hinterlassen, auch wenn Nicolae Ceausescu, einer der letzten Diktatoren Europas, vor mehr als 30 Jahren von der Macht genommen wurde. Als nächstes besuchen Sie die berühmteste Touristenattraktion in Bukarest, den Palast des Parlaments. Ursprünglich "Haus der Republik" genannt, war es eines der spektakulärsten Projekte, die unter der Herrschaft von Ceausescu durchgeführt wurden. Es wurde zwischen 1984 und 1997 erbaut und hält den Guinness-Weltrekord für das größte Verwaltungsgebäude der Welt mit 240 Metern Länge, 270 Metern Breite und 84 Metern Höhe. Das Gebäude ist auch als das Haus des Volkes bekannt.
Das letzte Wahrzeichen Ihrer Tour ist die Heimat des Ehepaares Ceausescu, der Ceausescu Residential Palace (Frühlingspalast). Dieses luxuriöse Anwesen wurde zwischen 1964 und 1965 erbaut und war von 1965 bis zu ihrem Tod 1989 Sitz von Elena und Nicolae Ceausescu. This was a great way to see some of the big tourist sites in Bucharest without worrying about transportation. Our guide Mihae did a great job of telling us about the rise and fall of communism in Romania. He got us to our tours of Ceausescu Residence and the Parliament Building on time and was waiting for us at the end of each tour. Afterwards, he took us on a walking tour of the historic center and we were able to pop into several of the monasteries to have a look around. We really enjoyed our day with Mihae- he's knowledgeable and just a really nice guy.

If you want to get out of your hotel room in Bucharest and are also interested in history/politics - this is a GREAT tour. Romania has a fascinating history. Our guide, Marcel, was an absolutely a wonderful guide to us for the day! He was so polite and full of history/commentary about Romania itself! Was able to see different areas of the city I wouldn’t have seen otherwise. We also were able to see/ride the subway with a local who knew the ropes. I normally don’t ventured into underground Metros that I am not familiar with, but he made us feel safe so all in all it was neat to be able to say I had the experience here in Bucharest. I was a bit under the weather by nightfall and he was kind enough to bring me to the local market as well as the pharmacy. Translating for us for various things helped tremendously! We really enjoyed the restaurant he brought us too. Great food with a pleasant ambiance/pretty view!
