Beschreibung

Great experience!

Sergeant Dao ( or Tony) was a fantastic guide for the trip. His first hand experience of the Australian operations and the base was enlightening and helped paint the picture of the time and place. My son and I thank You To y for sharing this with us.

Friendly and informative guide by a veteran

81 years young. Tony was an interpreter for the ANZACs in 1966, and remembers.the base and the battles personally. Happy to answer any questions, Tony is friendly and helpful as he guides you to the old places and tells you about the changes.

Informative and personal experience

A great experience with our funny and cheeky tour guide Mr Dao (Tony). First hand account of what our blokes had up against them and the sacrifices that many of them paid. It’s a shame that SAS Hill has been quarried, but the main high point still exists. Mr Dao supplied flowers, drinks and lunch and we were driven around by his driver in a nice black Toyota Fortuner, VIP style. Lest we forget.

Long Tan moving and memorable

We had a very good tour from Saigon to Long Tan with Tu as our guide who was very informative and helpful. It is a very peaceful and memorable location for a memorial to a battle that killed so many on both sides and is now dedicated to friendship between Vietnam and Australia

Excellent Tour Experience

Mr. Dao was an outstanding tour guide, highly knowledgeable about all aspects of the Vietnam War. Having a Vietnam veteran as our guide made the experience even more meaningful. Visiting the Long Tan Cross was a deeply moving moment. Standing amidst the rubber plantation, just as the soldiers once did, was a powerful experience. We also visited the old runway near Nui Dat and the remains of the helicopter landing pad that once accommodated dozens of choppers, it was truly fascinating. Although much of the area has been reclaimed by local farmers, a bit of imagination helped bring the history to life. The Long Phuoc tunnels offered a unique experience, very different from the Cu Chi tunnels. These tunnels are significantly larger, you can stand upright while walking through them. We explored a 100-meter stretch, encountering bats and hidden shooting posts along the way. A fantastic tour overall, highly recommended!

Long Tan

Thanks, Tony. It was truly fascinating to hear about what happened at Long Tan, how it unfolded, the numbers involved, and what remains today. Hearing it from someone who experienced the war firsthand made the account feel much more accurate and meaningful.

Long Tan and Nui Dat with Mr. Dao!

My mum and I had a fantastic time with Mr. Dao. We stopped for coffee on the way while he kindly picked up flowers for us to lay at the Australian memorial. At the site, we paid our respects and learned a great deal from Mr. Dao about Vietnamese life post-war and the country’s views on all nations involved. We also visited the site of the former Australian base camp, where only the airstrip remains alongside a kindergarten built by the Australians for the local community. Mr. Dao was funny, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable. It was a wonderful private tour completely tailored to us, with no rushing at all. Highly recommend!

A Meaningful Journey Through History

Our guide, Mr. Dao, was very knowledgeable being a veteran himself. Some of our conversations gave me a sense of peace and perhaps even a bit of closure. If you're considering this tour, please note that the bunkers at Nui Dat have been demolished. It's true what they say: while many never made it home, for those who did, home was never the same. While I see Vietnam striving to move beyond its bloody past through progress, I, for one, will never forget. RIP.
