Unsere Reise führt uns entlang des Eyjafjörður, einem der längsten Fjorde Islands, zu unserem ersten Ziel, dem Wasserfall Goðafoss, der in der Geschichte Islands eine große Bedeutung hat. Als nächstes erkunden wir die Schönheit des Sees Mývatn, wo wir atemberaubende Sehenswürdigkeiten wie Skútustaðagígar, auch als Pseudokrater bekannt, bewundern können. Dieses einzigartige Phänomen findet man nur an wenigen Orten auf der Welt, darunter Island, Hawaii, einer auf den Azoren und sogar auf dem Planeten Mars. Außerdem besuchen wir Dimmuborgir, ein Gebiet mit außergewöhnlichen Lavaformationen. Anschließend fahren wir weiter zum geothermischen Gebiet Hverir, wo viele rauchende Fumarolen und kochende Schlammtöpfe zu sehen sind. Nach Hverir fahren wir etwa 40 Minuten, um Dettifoss zu sehen, einen der mächtigsten Wasserfälle Europas. Wir haben die Möglichkeit, die bezaubernde Grjótagjá-Höhle zu besuchen, um den heißen blauen Fluss zu bewundern. Abenteuerlustige können sogar ein Foto machen, auf dem sie auf zwei tektonischen Platten stehen.

Unser erster Halt ist der Wasserfall Goðafoss, auch bekannt als Wasserfall der Götter. Die Sehenswürdigkeit ist weniger als 5 Minuten von einem Parkplatz entfernt. In der Nähe gibt es auch einen kleinen Laden und eine kostenlose Toilette.
Dieser Stopp heißt Pseudokrater, wunderschöne Lavaformationen am Myvatn-See. Es ist ein einzigartiger Ort, den man nur an wenigen Orten auf der Erde sehen kann. Die Attraktion befindet sich neben dem Parkplatz. In der Nähe gibt es einen kleinen Laden, ein Besucherzentrum und kostenlose Toiletten.
Wunderschöne und einzigartige Lavaformationen. Dieser Ort war früher ein See, bevor die Lava ihn zerstörte. Jetzt können Sie auf dem Grund des Sees spazieren gehen und die Lavaformationen bewundern. An diesem Ort werden wir eine kleine Wanderung machen, aber es besteht auch die Möglichkeit, in einem kleinen Restaurant/Laden zu übernachten und die Aussicht von oben zu genießen. Die Toilette ist kostenlos, wenn Sie im Restaurant etwas kaufen.
Ein weiterer einzigartiger Ort – heißes blaues geothermisches Wasser, das in der Höhle zwischen zwei tektonischen Platten fließt. Es ist möglich, in die Höhle hineinzugehen und alte geothermische Bäder zu erkunden. Sie können auch zwischen zwei tektonischen Platten stehen: der eurasischen und der nordamerikanischen und den großen Riss sehen, der durch Island verläuft.
Ein Ort, an dem das flache Grundwasser, das neben dem Krafla-Vulkansystem fließt, erhitzt wird und an die Oberfläche steigt. Sie können Dampfquellen, heiße, brodelnde Schlammtöpfe und viele bunte Mineralflecken auf dem Boden sehen. In der Gegend liegt ein schwefeliger Geruch, ähnlich dem Geruch von faulen Eiern.
Der mächtigste Wasserfall Europas, gemessen am Volumen. Seine volle Kraft kann man im Frühsommer spüren, wenn der ganze Schnee von den umliegenden Bergen schmilzt. An diesem Ort machen wir vom Parkplatz aus eine kleine Wanderung. Unterwegs können wir auch einen anderen Wasserfall namens Selfoss sehen.
Ein kurzer Stopp vor der Rückfahrt nach Akureyri. Sie können die Naturbäder von Myvatn besichtigen, die kostenlose Toilette benutzen und im Laden einen Snack kaufen.

It’s a full day’s adventure. We got to visit 6 different, amazing places. The vehicle was a comfortable 12 seater for our group of 10. We had sufficient time to hike to the two most famous waterfalls in the north: Goðafoss and Dettifoss, taking pictures and videos. We got so close to the falls that the rain jacket was covered by tiny water beads coming down from the waterfall spray! We also visited the geothermal pools, got to stand on the fault line where North America and Eurasia tectonic plates meet, and walked up to the “fake volcanos” next to Lake Mývatn. It was a full 8 hours tour, really long but worth every minute of it. Our guide Lillian(?) is a great young guide and driver, giving us a lot of history and culture information while she was driving us from point to point. We got to know the lives of local Icelanders and farmers a bit and that was really interesting to learn. One thing to remember - the lake Mývatn is known to locals as the Midget Lake. This tiny flies were very annoying and like to swarm around people. A hat with nets (like one the bee keepers wear) might come in handy! I would highly recommend the tour!
There were several stops on the tour. Particularly interesting were: Godafoss, Dettifoss, and the Lava Rocks. The guide was very friendly and helpful in giving info and answering questions. She was also very nice about taking pictures of everyone.
Fantastic day tour! Our guide took us to more stops than on the original list, including the area explaining the building of the tunnel and how they control the heat and the water. The waterfalls were breathtaking. Hint, ensure you have really good walking shoes as the jagged rocks and steep steps that make up the walk to Dettifoss are challenging - the path is not easy - and the wind whips around you. Overall, a really great experience and so many things to see!
This was a wonderful trip. Our guide was very knowledgeable about volcanos, history and iceland in general. We had a autistic child with us and we're able to bring her colapsable wheelchair with for half the excursions.
I did the Goðafoss, Mývatn Lake, and Dettifoss tour with Fox Adventures, and it was nothing short of spectacular. Our guide, Matti, went above and beyond every step of the way. Since this was a cruise tour, it started quite early. As a non-cruiser, I discovered the hard way that no cafés in Akureyri are open that early 😅. I joked about it to Matti, and just a few minutes later, he surprised me with a coffee, straight from their tour hut setup. A small gesture, but such a thoughtful and welcome one. The group I joined was fantastic, and because we made great time, we not only got to linger at all the main stops, but also made bonus stops at Víti Crater, a natural hot spring, and even enjoyed a scenic drive through Akureyri’s old town and past its highlights. As if the day wasn’t already one of the best tours I’ve ever had, Matti capped it off by noticing me walking back into town after drop-off and kindly giving me a lift. Talk about next-level hospitality. 👉 If you only do one tour in Akureyri, make it Fox Adventures - and ask for Matti. You won’t regret it!
This was a great experience, it was a smaller 20 person van and our tour guide, I believe her name was Johana, was amazing. She went out of her to help us take pictures and gave us great insight at all of our tour stops and during the drives on the way. The two waterfalls were absolutely beautiful and seeing the volcanic landscapes made it feel like we were on another planet. This tour does involve a lot of walking though at the waterfall sites so make sure to wear good trail shoes. Also, the company did an excellent job of communicating with us by e mail prior to the start of the tour to let us know exactly where to meet and we were able to beat all the large tour bus crowds at every stop we made. I highly recommend using this company for your tours in Iceland!

Excellent and comprehensive tour. Our guide Tina and our driver Lena were an outstanding team. They kept us on track and by doing so, they were able to provide a couple of extra experiences beyond those listed. They were both very personable and engaging. Tina provided great commentary and education about what we were seeing both from present and historical viewpoints. Lena enhanced the dialog ensuring that we all learned everything there was to learn. The small group made for a great tour. I do want to mention that both Tina and Lena went out of their way to ensure our comfort and provided sage advice regarding accommodations for our capabilities at each of the sites visited. Excellent tour! Excellent guide! Excellent driver! Excellent day! Last word of advice: if your guide makes a recommendation, take it! The meat (lamb) soup was one of the best things I've tasted in my life!

Great experience through the day with lots of information about Akureyri and lots of entertainment with our guide. We had a blast while also enjoying great views and our guide was super helpful with taking our pictures and telling us what all delicious local delicacies we should try!
