Beginnen Sie Ihre Reise mit einer Hotelabholung in Kapstadt und Transfer zum Nelson Mandela Gateway an der V&A Waterfront, wo Sie an Bord der Fähre nach Robben Island gehen. Bei der Ankunft machen Sie einen kurzen Spaziergang zu den Tourbussen, vorbei an historischen Gebäuden, die von Gefangenen gebaut wurden. Ihre geführte Bustour führt Sie zu Robben Island’ wichtigsten Sehenswürdigkeiten: dem Leprafriedhof, den Kalk- und Blausteinbrüchen, Robert Sobukwes Haus und dem Hochsicherheitsgefängnis. Sie werden auch Nelson Mandelas Gefängniszelle sehen, wo er 18 Jahre in Gefangenschaft verbrachte. Führer, darunter ehemalige politische Gefangene, erzählen eindringliche Geschichten über Widerstandsfähigkeit und Südafrikas Kampf für Demokratie. The excursion was very informative and interesting though we would have liked a few more stops to take photos and to soak up the atmosphere. Some things were not explained and we just drove pass.

I really enjoyed my time on this excursion. From my hotel pick up to the ferry ride to the tour and back. My bus ride had a wonderful guide. She explained and shared with us her family’s Reference Book. She teared up as she told the story about the book which made me tear up as well. Our tour guide at the prison was very knowledgeable. He was a former prisoner and showed us where his bed was positioned in section D. The tour was absolutely necessary in order to understand the history of Robben Island. After the ferry ride back my driver was there to pick me up. I choose to stay at Victoria and Alfred to have dinner and to do some shopping. Highly recommend this tour on your stay to South Africa. Only reason I gave it a four stars is you we rushed through the prison. Wanted to read more about the story of Robben island.

The ferry was an hour late in leaving for the island and then the tour guide sent us back to the ferry an hour earlier than everyone else. We just sat on the ferry thinking that it was leaving any minute but all of the other tour groups were still sightseeing. We had less than 1.5 hours on the tour. To make it worse, the first stop on the tour was a gift shop and snack bar. The first guide on the bus came out and asked us for donations.

Robben island is a must visit and the tour of the prison was very interesting. I do feel they are trying to get too many people through and It felt like not enough time. I would have liked more freedom to explore the complex. I understand the prison had to be controlled.

Driver picked up at the hotel and we still skip the line at the boarding place because we already have the ticket. Great tour, with cultural knowledge and proper structure.
