We booked the tour spontaneously and very easily one day in advance at the Coffee Union Café. The tour itself was great, the walk to the waterfall is beautiful, and our guide told us a lot about the local people living there as well as the plants in the area. The included lunch was very delicious! The coffee tour was different from what we had expected, as we didn’t walk through a plantation but rather went through the production process. Still, it was amazing! We really enjoyed it, and we were even allowed to get hands-on ourselves. The only thing we didn’t like quite as much were the sales attempts at the end, but that’s pretty normal for tours like this. The best part about the tour is that part of the proceeds go directly to the local village community, so you’re also supporting a good cause.
Our guide John was the best! He took great pictures of the two of us and was very informative. Loved the waterfall experience and the magnitude of the waterfall. The coffee experience was top notch the villagers put on an amazing feast & show! Coffee was amazing loved the tour from beginning to end! Thanks for the great day!! I highly recommend taking this tour!
This tour was wonderful; John was such a welcoming, kind, helpful guide and I was really able to enjoy my experience thanks to him. He would explain the local plants we went past, show me details of the village I might have missed as we went and generally just gave me the most brilliant opportunity to see the Materuni!
It was a wonderful day and John is a super friendly guide! He told a lot and gave interesting insights into the culture and the area. Highly recommended😊
I booked the trip via the Union Cafe, as I found it in Lonely Planet (I'm travelling solo btw). The pictures here show basically exactly what you get. A hike through beautiful nature over a small clay path to the waterfall, after which you end up in the village. There, I got some small explanation about the coffee and we went through the entire process of going from a dried bean to a delicious cup of coffee. For me, this was the best part, with handling the mortar and pestle myself, accompanied by african singing. After, I got a big lunch (together with the local guys who I also had a nice chat with) and tasted some local banana beer. Of course, I also bought a bag if coffee for them. All in all, a great recommendation!
The tour was amazing! My guide John was very kind, friendly and great to spend the day with! He was knowledgeable and shared a load of information about the waterfalls, plants, fruits and all kind of aspects of the jungle surrounding Materuni Waterfall. I really enjoyed the coffee tour, the experience of cultivating and creating my own coffee with the group was something I'll never forget! Go coffee Boys 😅 The lunch and food amazing, the waterfall was epic and due to the rains during this time of year, it was going off! I got to meet the owner of Tarry, Peter and spent some time speaking to both John and Peter after the tour. Both are very amazing individuals 👏 This is definitely a tour company I suggest people to book with! Their kindness, knowledge, hospitality and overall enjoyment of their work speaks volumes. THANK YOU for making my time in Moshi so memorable! The have a great little shop called Mama Africa Gift shop too - check it out if you get the chance!
Friendly guide and hosts, plus great nature scenery. Tasty coffee and lunch and positive atmosphere.
Perfect organization by our host, the Materuni waterfall is incredible and the path to get there offers breathtaking panoramas. The meeting with the coffee-producing family at lunch will remain memorable for their kindness, their sympathy and their smiles. We recommend with your eyes closed.
Had super private day tour with experienced guide to Kikuletwa (Hotsprings) and Materuni (Waterfall and Coffee Introduction) at 80USD. Booking on site sufficient. For the hike to the waterfall, good shoes and a half-fit condition are advantageous. The path is very muddy, so it is better not to put on the slickest clothes.
The waterfall and coffee presentation were so nice! Felt very authentic and I’ll remember them for a long time.
