Reiseverlauf

Pick up time was given as 0930. Late the evening before we get a message to say pick up 8 am. No warning and we had not booked an early breakfast. It was changed to 8.30 which was better. Phone call next morning to say 0845 - new driver, new car as our driver was ill. Picked up three people then driven to Knossos car park to drop two off and change driver. They were visiting the palace. Taken to soap factory which was not on agenda to wait until pick up the two people from Knossos. All five of us then to olive oil factory. We came out from it - no driver, we didn’t know where she was so sat for almost 30 minutes waiting. We then went to winery, lovely family and wine tasting with Raki. On then to lunch. We were promised a four course lunch with wine. The waiters literally dumped some bread, then tzatziki on the table then salad with strange tasting cucumber that none of us could eat. After that a plate which was described as chicken and pancetta but the pancetta was very dry and chewy with some fries. Afterwards some melon, tiramisu and raki. All in all very disappointing food. We do not feel the trip was worth the money we paid. We have experienced much better Viator tours.
Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While we are sorry to hear that the experience did not meet your expectations, we would like to clarify a few points for future travelers. Our small-group tours operate with multiple hotel pick-up locations across a wide geographical area. For this reason, final pick-up times are always confirmed the evening before the tour once all participants and routes have been finalized. Guests staying at the first collection point are naturally picked up earlier than those located closer to the main route. This is standard practice for shared tours worldwide. Travelers who prefer fixed schedules, direct routing, and complete flexibility may find a private tour more suitable for their needs. Regarding the operational changes on the day, one of our drivers became unexpectedly ill, requiring a last-minute adjustment to ensure the tour could operate rather than be cancelled. Despite this challenge, all scheduled experiences were delivered, including the winery visit, olive oil experience, tastings, and lunch. The brief stop at the soap workshop and the driver change were part of our effort to minimize disruption for all guests. As for the lunch, we appreciate that taste is subjective. However, the meal included traditional Cretan dishes, bread, appetizers, salad, a main course, dessert, wine, and raki, which corresponds to what was advertised. We find it unfortunate that after a full day of visiting several local producers, learning about olive oil production, Cretan wine, raki distillation, and local traditions, the review focuses almost exclusively on the lunch service. We continuously review all feedback to improve our operations and thank you for helping us do so. We wish you an enjoyable remainder of your travels in Crete.
This experience was the absolute highlight of our time in Crete! Yannis is a phenomenal guide—so knowledgeable and charismatic, he really made the history of the island come alive for us. The olive oil tasting felt incredibly authentic, and the owner’s hospitality was just fabulous. To top it off, the wine tasting was everything! Yannis’s energy and expertise truly made the day unforgettable. If you want to see the full vibe, check out the reel on my trav3lislife TikTok. Do not miss this tour!
Thank you so much for your wonderful words—and for taking the time to share your experience with others. Reviews like yours mean a great deal to us, especially because our goal has never been to create just another tour, but to open the doors to the real Crete… its people, its stories, its flavors, and yes—its generous glasses of wine along the way. It was a real pleasure having you with us. Yannis will be smiling when he reads this—though with a glass of local wine in hand, that was already likely. We truly appreciate your support, your energy, and for sharing your journey with your audience on TikTok. Until we meet again, there will always be a seat waiting for you in Crete.
Our experience was enjoyable and filled with good people, food, and wine! We were picked up from our hotel right on time and were able to meet other people from all over. Our Driver was amazing and funny! He got us where we needed to be safely and filled the car with laughter and great conversation. The wine tour and olive oil tour was also very informational. We enjoyed learning about the processes of wine and olive oil making. It was a lovely time!
Thank you so much for your warm and cheerful review — it sounds like your day was filled with exactly what we hope to offer: great company, genuine laughs, and a deep dive into Cretan flavors and traditions. We’re especially happy to hear your driver set the tone — a good driver doesn’t just get you there, they bring the journey to life. Learning about wine and olive oil straight from the source, while surrounded by new friends and local hospitality — that’s the heart of the experience. Ευχαριστούμε πολύ, and we hope you’ll come back for more food, wine, and good company anytime!
The driver was friendly and on time. The olive oil tasting was really not what we expected and we were underwhelmed. The winery tour was good, but the tasting and guide were great. The lunch was good, but the description read more like we would learn about how to prepare Cretan dishes than just a restaurant lunch. We had a nice day overall, but it was not exactly as it was described.
Thank you for your honest and constructive feedback — it means a lot. We're glad to hear your day had some highlights, especially the wine tasting and your interaction with the guide, and that the driver helped set a friendly tone from the start. That said, we completely understand your disappointment with some parts of the experience not meeting expectations. If the olive oil tasting or lunch didn’t align with the way the tour was described, that’s something we take seriously and will review to improve both clarity and delivery. Your input helps us refine the experience so that it better matches what guests anticipate — and deserve. Ευχαριστούμε πολύ for joining us, and we hope next time we can exceed your expectations all around.
A brilliant, informative, relaxed and friendly tour. Does exactly what it says. A very interesting visit to an olive oil factory and a brilliant tour and wine tasting experience at the winery. An additional, unexpected stop at a family run olive oil soap shop- really friendly and interesting, and delicious food at our lunch stop. The guides were friendly (funny!) and very helpful. A great trip.
What a joy to read — thank you so much! We're thrilled that the tour delivered exactly what you were hoping for (and maybe a bit more!). It sounds like each stop offered something meaningful, from the hands-on olive oil experience to the warm hospitality at the soap shop and winery — and of course, that delicious lunch to top it all off. We’ll make sure to pass along your kind words to the guides — they’ll be grinning ear to ear (especially the funny ones, who always love a bit of recognition!). Ευχαριστούμε πολύ — and we’d love to welcome you back for more Cretan discoveries anytime!
Well paced. Spent time at soap making shop, olive oil factory and winery. Hosts/hostess were exceptional. The tavern experience was outstanding. We truly loved the authentic food.
Thank you so much for your kind words — short, sincere, and straight from the heart! We're so happy to hear the pacing felt just right and that each stop gave you something special, from the warm hosts to the hands-on experiences. And yes — that tavern lunch is the crown jewel for many! When the food is made with care, and served with that genuine Cretan hospitality, it’s more than a meal — it’s a memory. Ευχαριστούμε πολύ που ήσασταν μαζί μας — we’d love to welcome you back again someday!
Had a very enjoyable experience and driver was fun and friendly. Communication was a bit confused as we were contacted by the tour operator the day before to change the date with an extra activity included. We replied with some questions as we didn’t mind changing date but weren’t that interested in the extra activity and wanted the original tour and timings but weren’t never got clarification. On pick up it became clear the extra activity was included but with out the answers to our queries we were concerned we may have been changed to an alternative tour and people were being changed between vehicles and we were never sure where we were going next which distracted us a bit and took a little away from the experience but overall was very good, not entirely sure it’s 100% worth the money if you add up what the individual activities would/should have cost plus a reasonable amount for transport but it was still good and I guess you pay a premium for the convenience of having it all organised and coordinated for you. What I will say is the Titakis wine tour and tasting was brilliant and our guide very friendly and knowledgeable. If you do one bit I’d do this and book direct for a much better price. The olive oil part was good and interesting, only criticism is the guide who was also very nice and friendly spoke so fast we couldn’t really process or retain what he was telling us and at many points he was distracted suddenly talking in Greek to staff or on his phone so with the language barrier was hard to decipher when he was talking to us or others. BUT….. the olive oils are amazing and more than make up for it for a Mediterranean/whole food lover I could have taken a whole case full back. The soap making workshop was the unexpected bit and interesting lovely people but wouldn’t have necessarily chosen to include that and wasn’t advertised. The lunch was lovely but not ‘4 course’ as advertised it seems they count the shot sized glass of wine you get with your meal and same of raki as a course and between our group there wasn’t quite enough of cetain dishes or meats for everyone to try. I’m bring very picky as I feel I paid a premium price. Was it good? 100% but do feel if the dropped the price maybe €20 it would feel like much better value for money whilst still undoubtedly profitable for the tour operator
Dear guest, First of all, thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review. We are truly glad that overall you enjoyed your day with us, especially the Titakis Winery visit, the olive oil tasting, and the lunch in the village. Your kind words for our team and local partners mean a lot. That being said, we hear you on the parts that could have been clearer. Last-minute changes with added activities are never meant to confuse but to enhance the experience—and we apologise if our communication left you uncertain on the day. Your feedback on the olive oil presentation and lunch serving is also noted, and we’ll be addressing these points directly with our partners to ensure guests can enjoy them without feeling rushed or short on portions. As for pricing, we completely understand your thoughts. Organising a full experience does come with coordination, transfers, and guaranteed access—but we also want every guest to feel they receive fair value. Your suggestion about the €20 difference is a constructive one, and we’ll keep it in mind when reviewing our packages. We’re happy you still rate the experience as “100% good,” and we hope that if you return to Crete, we’ll have the chance to welcome you again and show you the improvements your feedback has helped us shape. Warm regards, Yannis & the LocalTrips4U Team
We booked the Olive Oil and Wine Tasting tour and it was great! Definitely got more value out of the experience than we expected. The host, Yannis, was extremely welcoming and entertaining to talk to, and the locals we were visiting during the tour were all extremely hospitable. Highly recommended.
Thank you so much for your kind words and for sharing your experience! We're thrilled to hear the Olive Oil and Wine Tasting tour exceeded your expectations — that’s exactly the kind of feedback that makes us smile like a Cretan yiayia hearing you ate *everything on your plate*. Mr. Yannis will be over the moon to know you enjoyed his company — he has a talent for turning a good tour into a memorable one, and the warm-hearted locals you met are truly the soul of what we do. Thank you again for recommending us — you're always welcome back for more stories, flavors, and a glass (or two) of Cretan hospitality!
For our last day in Crete, we wanted something in the countryside and lowkey. This was perfect. We visited Cretan Dragon farm. Delightful -Alex was a gracious host. Then a local winery - Fournarakis. Yummy wines. The last winery was a bigger operation - Titakis. Great wines. Lunch was delicious and filling. Manos drove us door to door. An easy relaxing day. The van that he had to drive needed to be updated.
Thank you for choosing to spend your last day in Crete with us—we’re so happy we could provide the perfect relaxed countryside experience you were looking for! It warms us to hear you enjoyed your time at Cretan Dragon farm with Alex, the tastings at both Fournarakis and Titakis wineries, and of course, that delicious lunch. Manos will be especially pleased to know he helped make your day so seamless with his door-to-door service. We’ve also noted your comment about the van and will certainly take it into account for future upgrades. Wishing you safe travels home, and we hope to welcome you back to Crete someday for more wine, sunshine, and easy-going adventures!
Amazing day, and our guide was fantastic!!! The olive oil tour was very informative and thorough and we loved sampling the olive oil. The wine tour was also great, beautiful grounds and extensive tour of the facilities.
Thank you for your kind words and glowing review! We're so happy to hear you had an amazing day and that our guide made the experience even more enjoyable. It's wonderful that you found the olive oil tour informative and enjoyed sampling the fresh flavors—it’s always a highlight for many of our guests. We’re also thrilled that you loved the wine tour, including the beautiful surroundings and the in-depth look at the winemaking process. We hope these experiences made your visit to Crete even more special. Looking forward to welcoming you back for more memorable tours in the future!
