Overall, the tour company was very professional, the tour guide was local and had grown-up in the town, he was extremely fun and pleasant and told us fun facts, but also kept it very entertaining. Our trip was delayed a little bit, which cut the trip slightly short, which made lunch kind of just a hurried affair of eating sandwiches while waiting to get into the forest lagoon. Other than that, the timing of everything was fantastic. At the waterfalls, you have time to walk down to the waterfalls and take plenty of pictures without feeling rushed. At the forest Lagoon, it was pretty crowded, which was of course not our tour guide’s fault. The forest Lagoon is very close to the port and is easy to get to and there were two boats in Port that day and so let’s just say the showers were crowded and if you were modest, it was difficult to get into the private showers. However once you get in the lagoon itself, it was extremely pleasant. Of note, My daughter went to the Volk baths the next day from Seydisfjordur and they did have a long drive to get there but it was a lot less crowded! Overall I would highly recommend!
This was an expertly-timed excursion, maximizing our time in Akureyri. Mikael, our guide, and Pyotr, our driver, took us first to Grenjaðarstaður Farm to tour a turf house and learn about life in 1865. It was fascinating walking around the dark, rabbit-warren-like home, decorated in fine style as it was owned by a prosperous vicar. By visiting the museum first, we were able to bypass the crowds and numerous buses going to Godafoss first. By the time we arrived, we had the vast waterfall almost to ourselves! This one is not to be missed. Absolutely breathtaking. We were treated to coffee and a pastry due to the tour organizers' connection with the hotel on-site. We were given plenty of time to enjoy the waterfall, coffee, and a little shopping thrown in. Finally, we went to the Forest Lagoon, which is a beautiful way to experience the thermal baths. The Lagoon is spotlessly clean and well-organized. We had plenty of time, but could choose to return to the ship by the Lagoon's shuttle if we wanted. We chose to return after 90 minutes as we wanted a bit of time to walk around downtown Akureyri before our all-aboard time. Mikael was an excellent tour guide and provided lots of interesting information about this part of Iceland. The tour is not cheap, but with everything included except for our beer at the Lagoon, I felt it was good value for money.
Godafoss Waterfall was spectacular with a variety of views. The Turf house was interesting to see how some families had to live years ago. Not sure if it was due to the time of year, however there were gnats flying around us outside. The Forest Lagoon hot springs was really a treat and a great way to end the tour. We enjoyed over 2 hours at the site which also included a sauna and a cold plunge spa pool. The guide was excellent, the mini bus was fairly new and comfortable, and pickup at the port was seamless.
Very fun and beautiful. I highly recommend this activity while in Iceland. The Forest Lagoon was a true high light.
our guide was very good and you could tell she loved being a resident of the area all her life. She took time to answer extra questions and share insights into things that made our experience even more worthwhile. She personalized the tour to our interests. All parts of the tour were very interesting and well worth it.
Lovely tour guide. Lots of interesting facts while we traveled to our destinations. Times everything perfectly with stops so there was plenty of time to enjoy the sites and take bathroom breaks etc. Balán was our guide.
Forest Lagoon is beautiful and so relaxing. Guide was exceptional.
Interesting and relaxing, the Forest Lagoon Baths were a highlight of our trip! Michael was an excellent guide who was able to miss the crowds at Godafoss Waterfall and was full of interesting facts/information about Icelandic history, culture and way of life. The Waterfall was beautiful, and even better that we had the place to ourselves! Forest Lagoon baths is gorgeous, steamy and relaxing; and truly was the best experience even when it started to rain, the waters were the perfect temperature. Highly recommended tour and even nicer when Saga picked us up and delivered us back to port.
smooth travel arrangement. On time to arrive perhaps arrived earlier than the appointed time. Julie is very great tour buddy to leas our group. She has standby shoe spike in case needed. She drives professionally and safeyly
We had a great trip with Hilmar, informative and humorous. The peat houses were exciting to visit, the Godafoss waterfall was breathtaking and the time in the forest lagoon super relaxing, especially in the cold weather!
