Katholische Kirche im neugotischen Stil, ihr Bau begann 1884. Die Basilika entsteht, um die Weihe Ecuadors an das Heiligste Herz Jesu zu ehren, die im Auftrag des damaligen Präsidenten Gabriel Garcia Moreno erfolgte. In der Basilika stechen ihre Türme mit hohem touristischem Potenzial und unglaublichen Ausblicken auf die Stadt, das Nationale Pantheon der Staatsoberhäupter, Katakomben, 3 Kapellen und das Oblatenkloster hervor.
Bei den Quiteños auch als Plaza Grande bekannt, ist der Hauptplatz des historischen Zentrums ein politisches, symbolisches und historisches Zentrum der Stadt. In der Umgebung dieses historischen Platzes befinden sich der Carondelet-Palast oder Regierungspalast, die Kathedrale von Quito, der Palast des Erzbischofs und die Stadtverwaltung. Außerdem können wir das Unabhängigkeitsdenkmal in der Mitte des Platzes sehen.
Die Gesellschaft Jesu ist einer der wichtigsten katholischen Tempel in Lateinamerika. Seine in Vulkangestein gemeißelte Fassade und sein mit Blattgold bedecktes Inneres machen es zu einem repräsentativen Werk des Barock und Synkretismus. Der Tempel gehört dem Jesuitenorden und sein Bau begann 1605. Darüber hinaus beherbergt der Tempel weltweit einzigartige Gemälde und Kunstwerke.
Die Skulptur, die sich auf der Spitze der Loma von Panecillo befindet, entspricht einer Darstellung der Virgen de Legarda oder Virgen Apocalyptica, einem Quito-Werk aus dem 18. Jahrhundert. Es wurde 1975 aufgestellt, ist 41 Meter hoch und ist derzeit eines der höchsten Denkmäler der Welt. Er besteht aus Aluminium und sitzt auf einem Steinsockel. Ebenso ist der Hügel von Panecillo einer der reizvollsten natürlichen Aussichtspunkte.
Die Seilbahn Quito ist eine der höchsten Luftseilbahnen Südamerikas, die Sie von der Stadt aus auf fast 4.000 Meter über dem Meeresspiegel an den Hängen des Vulkans Pichincha bringt. Favourite part of the day trip was at the middle of the earth and also visiting the various churches in Quito - loved the cultural experience - Pedro shared a lot of historical and interesting facts which truly enriched the experience. He’s very knowledgeable, spoke really well in English and was fun to hang out with! Travellers, bring a jacket and wear sensible shoes as it can get quite windy and hilly.
