Reiseverlauf
Wir fahren an der echten „Avenue der Vulkane“ vorbei, die im Navi als „Avenida de los Volcanes“ verzeichnet ist. Unterwegs halten wir an einer Tankstelle, um die Toiletten zu nutzen und etwas zum Mittagessen sowie ausreichend Wasser und die für den Tag benötigten Snacks zu kaufen. Wir fahren durch die Landschaft zwischen den folgenden Vulkanen (Pasochoa, Rumiñahui und Sincholagua), bis wir den Vulkan Cotopaxi erreichen.
Sobald wir an diesem Eingangstor angekommen sind, haben Sie die Möglichkeit, Tüten mit Kokablättern oder Koka-Bonbons zu kaufen, die bei Höhenproblemen helfen. Außerdem ist dies ein guter Ort, um Handschuhe, Mützen und Ponchos zu erwerben, die von Einheimischen hergestellt wurden. Indem wir auf dieser weniger touristischen Seite hineingehen, vermeiden wir außerdem Zeitverlust, da wir uns nicht am Tor bei den Parkrangern anstellen müssen.
Sobald wir den Nationalpark betreten haben, beginnen wir mit dem Ausritt. Sich mit der bereitgestellten Ausrüstung wie Helm und Regenponcho ausrüsten. Und dann machen wir uns auf den Weg durch diesen weniger frequentierten Teil des Nationalparks, der atemberaubende Ausblicke und Gelegenheiten bietet, sich mit der Natur zu verbinden. Während des Ausritts können Sie alle nicht benötigten Gegenstände oder persönlichen Sachen in dem Transportfahrzeug verstauen, das wir an diesem Tag nutzen. Nach der Rückkehr vom Ausritt fahren wir zum Parkplatz auf einer Höhe von 15.000 Fuß (4.600 m), von wo aus wir die Wanderung zum Refugio José Rivas (Basislager) beginnen.
Nach dem Ausritt fahren wir etwa 30 Minuten lang von 3.650 Metern auf 4.570 Meter Höhe, wo wir parken und unsere 2,4 Kilometer lange Wanderung zum Basislager beginnen. Ein unvergessliches Erlebnis und atemberaubende Ausblicke. Als wäre man auf einem anderen Planeten.
Wir fahren auf der touristischen Seite zurück nach Quito.

Abholorte & -zeiten
Die Abholzeit liegt zwischen 7:00 und 7:30 Uhr, je nach Ihrem Standort innerhalb des Stadtzentrums von Quito. Diese Informationen werden am Vortag bis 19 Uhr bestätigt, sobald uns die endgültige Teilnehmerzahl und die Veranstaltungsorte vorliegen. Sollten Sie außerhalb der Abholgebiete wie Cumbaya, Pifo, Tumbaco, Puembo, Sangolquí oder Tababela (Flughafengebiete) wohnen, können wir gegen Aufpreis eine Abholung und Rückfahrt organisieren oder einen Treffpunkt vereinbaren, an dem Sie uns über Uber erreichen können.

We had an awesome experience with Jorge. We were so excited to ride horses around Cotopaxi. The horse are well taken care of and they were easy to ride. The trek was very peaceful and beautiful. After we went on a hike around the lagoon limpiopungo lagoon at 12000 feet lower part of the volcano. And we are happy we chose that option so we know what to expect when we come back to trek up to the base. Jorge was very knowledgeable, friendly. We would be reaching out again for a future tour.

Our experience at Cotopaxi with Jorge exceeded all expectations. Cotopaxi is an absolute must do when visiting Ecuador!! The scenery is breathtaking, and the whole experience is unforgettable. From pick-up to drop-off, everything was well organised, communication was excellent, and we felt like we were in great hands throughout the day. The horseback ride was a real highlight, with well cared for horses and patient, helpful guides who made everyone feel comfortable, regardless of experience. We would highly recommend this company and wouldn't hesitate to book with them again!

The drive out isn't so long, so that's great. The horseback ride was fun. It was beautiful although very cloudy so we couldn't see much. The hike to base camp was difficult but if you slow it's okay. Again, so cloudy but still amazing. You can eat some soup and have tea at base camp if you don't want to haul lunch with you. Expect to pay $.50 every time you have to use the bathroom 😂. The guide, Dario, was nice and attentive.

Great way to experience Cotopaxi! The horseback ride was amazing. When we went to hike, there was freezing rain and fierce winds. We wished we had known beforehand to bring appropriate layers of trekking gear. Also, hand sanitizer and coins to use the toilet come in handy. Some braved the cold wet weather and hiked, while many stayed on the bus. Despite the weather, this is a very good tour to see the natural beauty of the national park.

Going the less common way into and up Cotopaxi was well worth the trip. Just make sure you are ready for the sudden season change!

What an amazing day! I would 100% recommend this tour — from start to finish it was extremely well organized. I felt looked after, and everyone was so friendly and welcoming! I have very little experience with horses, but I felt very comfortable. The tour up the mountain was beautiful, and I was able to set the pace (I never felt rushed in the slightest). 10/10 day! I would absolutely do it again!

Wow. What an experience. Our driver and guide gracefully led us through a very challenging adventure to the base camp of Cotopaxi. We rode beautiful horses, bounced our way up to the clouds, fought the wind and learned so much during our day trip. Thank you for the extra gloves and encouragement along the way!

What an adventure. From pick up to drop off, our guide Adrian exceeded expectations with his attention, knowledge, and flexibility. He was attentive and shared cultural and nature facts allowing us to connect with our experience. Suited up in waterproof ponchos and cowhide chaps, we saddled up and took in the beauty of Cotopaxi and surround areas on horseback. We had planned to hike to Cotopaxi’s base camp but the combination of the 60 mph winds and our less than ideal attire, we opted to trek around Limpiopungo Lagoon where we took in spectacular views of Cotopaxi. Overall, it was an amazing experience. *if you are considering the hike to the Cotapaxi base camp, know that hiking boots/shoes, long waterproof hiking pants with under layers, layers of shirts under a waterproof jacket, buffs for neck that covers ears and face, warm hat that is secure (mine somehow was pulled off from under my rain jacket and flew over the cliffs edge), and sunglasses. Expect to get wet and struggle against the wind and altitude.
