Reiseverlauf

45 Min

Myvatn, Waterfall, Hot Springs & Volcanoes Tour from Akureyri

Myvatn, Waterfall, Hot Springs & Volcanoes Tour from Akureyri. This tour isn’t listed on the Tours available to review, so I picked a tour to review that sound similar, I’ll start with the good part of my review. The guide, Kristen, was very good. Engaging, friendly and had lots of interesting things to tell us about Iceland. And she used all of the time on the bus during the long drives to do that, so kept us very entertained. The itinerary was great – – we were glad to be able to visited all the places that we stopped, and the scenery on the long drives was lovely. The time at the stops was limited, so you do have to move fairly quickly if you want to get down the trails to see things up close. The included lunch was basic: grocery-store-prep sandwich on white bread with a bottle of water. Now the negative part of my review – –The booking process and interacting with the Tour company was very frustrating. We booked the tour directly with the Tour company just a few days before the tour date because the tour we had booked with another company got canceled. The communication with the Tour company at that point was good – – they responded fairly quickly to my emails with questions about the Tour. So I booked and paid for the tour (3 people). We booked the 8AM tour because we were arriving on a cruise ship, and that’s what time the Tour company recommended given our ship wasn’t arriving until 7 AM. But the next day, I got an email saying that the tour time has been changed from 8 AM to 7:30 AM, with no explanation. Why had they recommended and confirmed a tour the day before, and then changed the Tour time the next morning? If there was any delay in the ship being cleared, we would miss the tour because they said that they would not wait for us. That was of course upsetting, but we decided to stick with the tour and be ready to get off as soon as we could— and hope for the best. Then later that same day, I got an email that said the tour has been canceled. Then I got an email telling me I was booked on a different tour that started at 9 AM. I was confused! I got a notification on my phone that there was a message from them, but I couldn’t find the message on email, WhatsApp or in my texts. I then recalled that I had downloaded their app months ago when I was first looking for Tours, and that’s where the message was. Took a few back-and-forth messages to clarify the details of the new Tour, and confirm that the tour we had paid for had been canceled (after first being confirmed the day before, then having the time changed that morning). We had booked a small group 19-people 8 -hour tour, and they had moved us to a 60-people 6-hour tour. They made no mention of any refund, so I had to question them about that, and the refund amount seemed to be low, given the big difference in the two tours – – around $25 per person. We wanted the longer small group tour, but at this point, the day before the tour, we really had no option. So we accepted the new tour. I talked with another person on the tour who had not downloaded the app, and who had had the tour changed on them at the last minute too. She had gotten very little explanation about the change and was very confused as well because she was not getting responses or information from the company on email. And it seemed like she was still booked on the first tour – – so now she was booked on two Tours? So I can give five stars to the tour itinerary and the Tour Guide, if you’re OK being on a big bus. But the company confirmed a tour, then the next day changed the time of the tour, and then later that day canceled the tour, and then book us on a totally different Tour —and the communication about all of that was confusing and at times frustrating. If you book with them, make sure you download the app – – that’s the best way to be in direct contact with the company.

Kirsten was great as our...

Kirsten was great as our tour guide. She was very knowledgeable and entertaining. Enjoyed the Goodafos falls. The rules of bathing and explaining the facilities of how Forest Lagoon works would have been helpful.

Relaxing

Facilities were clean, nice swim up bar, the scenery was spectacular, it was very relaxing. Waterfall was nice, except for all the bugs and bathroom you have to pay for in the gift shop.

Geothermal pool heaven

We went first to The Blue Lagoon, and then later to the Forest Lagoon. We loved both, but this one just seemed more intimate and dreamy. But, both were amazing experiences, highlights for our trip.
