Ein unvergesslicher Ausflug: Aufstieg mit der Seilbahn und dem Geländebus bis auf 2850 m. Der Wanderweg beginnt hier; ein faszinierender Zwischenstopp ist der an einigen erloschenen Kratern, Eruptionsspalten und Lavaspalten. Wir werden weiter bis zu den Barbagallo-Kratern in 3000 Metern Höhe wandern. Von hier aus hat man einen atemberaubenden Blick auf die Gipfelkrater. Sie besuchen den Kraterrand des Ausbruchs von 2002 und steigen anschließend entlang sandiger Strände hinab zur Montagnola, von wo aus Sie das Valle del Bove, eine große vulkanisch-tektonische Senke, überblicken können. Ein atemberaubendes Panorama, wie es nur wenige andere Orte auf der Welt bieten können. Der Rückweg mit der Seilbahn ermöglicht Ihnen einen letzten Blick auf diese bezaubernde Mondlandschaft; die gesamte Gehzeit beträgt etwa 4 Stunden.

Reiseverlauf
Wir starten von der Hütte der Etna Sud Alpine Guides, fahren mit der Seilbahn weiter bis auf 2500 Meter und erreichen dann mit einem Geländewagen 2850 Meter.
Der erste Halt wird der Aussichtspunkt Valle del Bove sein, eine große hufeisenförmige vulkanisch-tektonische Senke im östlichen Teil des Ätna. Sie ist aus vulkanologischer Sicht sehr wichtig, da es entlang der Wände mehrere Felsvorsprünge gibt. An schönen Tagen ist die Aussicht atemberaubend.
Ein sehr wichtiger Stopp ist der Barbagallo-Krater auf einer Höhe von etwa 3000 Metern. Wenn Sie entlang der Sandbänke hinaufgehen, erreichen Sie einen Lavastromkanal, der auf den Ausbruch von 2002 zurückgeht. Wenn Sie den Kanal hinaufgehen, gelangen Sie zur überschwänglichen Mündung desselben Ausbruchs. Wir fahren weiter in Richtung Torre del Filosofo (2920 Meter) entlang der jüngsten, noch heißen Lavaströme (21.05.2023). Nach der Mittagspause wandern wir am Rand des Barbagallo-Kraters entlang und bewundern die Gipfelkrater und die gesamte Ostküste Siziliens, von Taormina bis Syrakus.
Nach dem Spaziergang am Rande des Barbagallo-Kraters hatten wir vor Beginn des Abstiegs noch einmal Gelegenheit, die Gipfelkrater des Ätna, den Zentralkrater und den Südostkrater mit ihrer unvermeidlichen Gaswolke zu bewundern.
Die Rückfahrt mit der Seilbahn erfolgt über Kanäle aus Vulkansand und bietet an schönen Tagen einen atemberaubenden Ausblick, der von der ionischen Küste bis ins Landesinnere Siziliens reicht.

The trek was hard for me, a couch potato, but I did it. If I could do it, you can too lol. I told my guide I was giving up and he let me rest a little and convinced me to keep going. Good hiking boots and trekking poles are a must.
An experience you cannot really put into words. The landscape is otherworldly and the emotions you experience under an active volcano are one of a kind. Because of the ongoing eruption and the sudden bad weather, we couldn’t complete the whole tour, but thankfully Clara, our wonderful guide, made sure we got the most of the experience. She was sweet, competent and attentive, and made you curious and passionate about the volcano just like an excellent teacher would do. Will definitely come back for another experience. Amazing experience hiking up around the crater field to the rumbling of the current eruption. Very knowledgable and friendly guide. Def need a degree of fitness and be prepared to come home with volcanic ash/sand everywhere! Would recommend, we loved it

Perfect excursion. The guides are very good. Important: glasses and something to cover your mouth if the volcano is active and bring something to eat for the quick stop on the excursion.
