An Amazing Experience!

Josephine, our host was amazing, very friendly and her home felt so inviting during our cooking experience in Kenya. We visited the local market, which was an exciting experience. We returned to her home to prepare the local dishes in a clean environment. The meal was very delicious and adequate for us all. We will consider doing thus again whenever we return to Kenya to get this local experience.

Shop and cook like a local!

If you are looking to shop and cook like local and have an enjoyable home cooked meal and interesting conversation, this activity is for you. Josephine is an excellent host and will take you to and ftom one of her nearby fruit and vegetable market in a local matuku bus. The bus ride is an experience in itself. Then she’ll take you to her home and together you’ll prep and cook a delicious meal. What fun!

Amazing tour of an expansive local market, thrilling bus ride, yummy cooking class and banquet, hosted by charming host.

Despite a small delay we headed off to a massive and very local market. Amazing variety of fresh produce, albeit in a very rustic setting. A local bus ride (matatu) was energetic, loud and exciting, all topped off with African hip hop music as loud as a rock concert. Not to be missed. Cooking class at Josephine’s home was also a highlight. Her warm and vibrant personality shone through, as did her many insights into local food and culture. All topped off with a generous and flavoursome banquet we all cooked with her. Many cooking tips and cultural insights will stay with us forever. Definitely the best food and cultural tour we have ever done.

Something that is no longer out of my comfort zone :)

I went solo! Like I do most trips. Ms. Josie was kind and sweet and made sure I got to experience the matatu my last night in Kenya! It was awesome hehe. We went to the market where we picked up all the ingredients needed to make chipati from scratch, we made greens/spinach. It was so good I had t take leftovers and my friends enjoyed the food as well. I cannot wait to make African fo when I return home to the states. She is such a great teacher, I wondered off at the market and met a little girl who was only 13, and showed me how to make chipati in a little cramped in store that sold it. Mr. Mike and the other young woman that works for Ms. Joise were so kind, we told stories, took photos together and her daughter were so kind and sweet and playful. I thanked Ms. Joise and let her know I wouldn't have wanted this experience any other way. If you are near the meetup point, say 10 minutes such as me just confirm how near or far your host is prior to stepping off. Things happen, I look fwd to possibly sharing more experiences with Ms. Joise in the future. I had a blast!

Great cultural cooking class!

This is a great cultural experience if you have some extra time in Nairobi. Josephine was a great host, chef, and all around tour guide. We had a group of eight of us, four adults and four kids. first of all, she was good with managing our dietary restrictions. We had several vegetarians in our group, and the meal she planned for us was still completely authentic and flavorful. We got to do almost all of the cooking alongside of her, which was really fun and educational. It was especially nice to see the marketplace to buy the fruits and vegetables, and we got to take the music bus. That was definitely an experience that we would not have had if not for this tour. we do a cooking class and nearly every foreign city that we visit, and this by far was the most authentic. Do beware that it's at least a four hour experience. By the time you go to the market and travel back to her house, that's almost an hour and a half right there in time. If you have this time to spare, worth it!

The perfect way to get closer to Kenyan culture

That tour was phenomenal! Josephine is a patient, smart, funny and nice professor that will give a lot of insights about Kenyan culture! :) first she brings you into a Matatu to go to the market to buy stuff for the meal, and then you follow her at her home by a Matatu party bus! And then she shows you how to make a mouth-watering Kenyan stew with sides that you will want to cook over and over at home! She even offers you fruits and sugarcane as a snack! Top-notch hospitality! A must to book in Nairobi! :D
