Abenteuer im Chimborazo: Wandern und Klettern ab Quito

Beschreibung

Great journey, I set out alone and my guide Kevin was very responsible. I know it takes five hours to get from Quito to Chimborazo, but along the way you can see the famous volcanoes and experience different central scenery. The climb takes one to two hours depending on physical strength, and we go from shelter one to shelter two, 5,033 metres. It's a little hard to climb, so make sure you wear good shoes. Temperatures in July are around zero, but windy near the summit. After coming down we went to lunch, in a warm mountaineer hostel, and the food was surprisingly good. Recommended for anyone who lives in Quito and wants to climb a snowy mountain, Chimborazo's history and scenery will never disappoint you.

Excellent Tour, beautiful views, the volcano is a beauty in every sense. It is well worth the effort to get to the ice part, it is very close to Laguna Cóndor. The guides were excellent, very friendly and made our experience the best.
This tour was disappointing from beginning to end, and I cannot recommend it to anyone. The good: The hike itself - a bit challenging due to the altitude and scree but overall a solid hike. No need for hiking boots, but a trailrunner or trail sneaker (something with good tread) would be ideal. Cold weather gear is a must. The hike takes up maybe 2 hours out of the entire trip. The bad: First, the way the tour is scheduled, we ended up leaving Quito probably around 7:30/8am or so, and did not reach the mountain until well after noon. Any hiker knows that you should ideally reach the mountain in the morning when the weather and clouds have not settled. We weren't even close. Could not see a thing. The company should schedule their pickups earlier and not allocate an hour for breakfast (way too long for eggs and bread). The lunch plan was... nonexistent. We drove around for 30+ minutes after leaving Chimborazo as the driver and guide could not find the lunch restaurant. It turned out that the company had picked a place that no one had ever heard of or been to (including the locals, who we pulled up alongside x3 to ask for directions). The company ultimately gave us a plan B, which was a restaurant that wasn't even open! They clearly had agreed to open up the place just for us as the lights hadn't even been turned on. The tour guide then told us that we had a stipend of $5 USD to spend on lunch and anything over that we would need to reimburse. There were not many things covered by a $5 stipend, so we had to top up on our lunch that should have been included in the "all-inclusive" tour cost. Last thing, our guide barely spoke to us the entire tour, preferring to speak to other travelers who knew Spanish. He did not provide much information to the group about Chimborazo, the local area, vicunas, Quito, Ecuador, etc. Most of the (long) van journey was silent. I was very excited for this tour, but unfortunately, it was a major letdown. I recommend that you consider other options before booking. Note: The booking states "This is a private tour/activity. Only your group will participate" but this is not accurate as there was another couple on our tour.
Thank you for your advice and opinion of our tour. It is a shame that you have had this type of experience with us, we are always characterized by the quality of our service backed by the hundreds of travelers who have organized their trips and the very good comments they leave us. The start of the tour from Quito was between 5:30 and 6:00 am, so outside of Quito we were already at 7:00 am. At that time we were already in Cotopaxi, another province of Ecuador, where breakfast was. Unfortunately, being a tour that is not close to Quito does not allow us to arrive at the Mountain earlier, even so we try to arrive at the mountain before 11:00 am so that you can enjoy it. In any case, we will try to improve in this aspect so that they can spend as much time as possible in the mountains. Regarding lunch, the guide and driver took another route that did not allow us to reach the place designated for lunch since there are no good options to stop around the volcano. This tour has some challenges that we are constantly solving, we work with local service providers with training and recommendations to improve the quality of tourist services so you can enjoy this tour. Regarding the guide, we apologize for what happened, as a policy they always have to share with all travelers, clarify their doubts and respond to their requirements. That is why your comments are important to us in this way we improve as a company. Regarding the fact that they had to be accompanied by 2 more people, it was more thought of safety for our travelers since on the departure date there were safety recommendations from our local tourism authorities. They recommended that we carry out the operations with a single group to have better monitoring of our GPS system and to be attentive to what they will need. In any case, we will take all your recommendations and take this tour to a new level. Thank you for traveling with us and we are sorry for your experience. Kind Regards
It was a long drive, as expected, but the trip was worth it! The views on the drive were amazing, and we saw many vicuñas and a fox on our hike up Chimborazo. Would recommend!
Wonderful things are made to wait :) this is Chimborazo. We are glad that you liked our tour, it is a trip that cannot be missed on your visit to Ecuador. A big hug from the middle of the world.
This is a great way to see Mt. Chimborazo from Quito. It comes with breakfast before we get to the mountain and lunch after. The hike to the refuge is challenging, but well worth it. The views are are spectacular. Our tour guide was terrific.
How incredible that you can visit the imposing Chimborazo with us. Your experience motivates us to continue providing our best service. We hope you can visit Ecuador again and together we can share more adventures. On behalf of the Barak Ecuador family, we send you a big hug.
The Guide was best you can have. He know a lot about the nature and ecplained very well. The trip was safty and good organised. Thanks!
Thank you for your comments, we appreciate it very much and it motivates us to continue providing the best service in all our outings. On behalf of the Barak Ecuador family, we send you a big hug.
This was a magical day @ a real mind blowing volcano and landscape. Both my guide Daniel & driver Santiago went out of their way to get the most out of this experience. If I had to rate them, it would have been 5 stars plus, ver well done!!! Nevertheless I rate the booking 3 stars, because the description says biking downhill. There is no such thing included and they offer no restitution for not living up to that part of the trip. Second point is that communication before the trip started, was mediocre. No response to email and dietary restrictions were not noted
We are glad that you had an incredible experience, we seek to carry out an impeccable tour operation so that it is not a tiring trip due to distance. We take advantage of every minute of this trip to the mythical Chimborazo. What we regret is the issue of updating information on the page. We no longer carry out the bike tour, you can check it in the included services and the name of the tour. We request that the information be updated on all the platforms to avoid these inconveniences, for which we apologize for that confusion. In the communication part, the platform provides us with a chat where we can communicate with our travelers, in that chat we send 3 messages on different days and times. We send the last one a day before the trip, but we had no response, so we insisted until the last message. Daniel told us that he explained to you and showed the evidence photos. He indicated a photo of an email that you send where all that data was, but it never reached our email, so we believe that you sent it to the TripAdvisor email, ours is different (info@elbarakecuadortravel.com) In any case, we are sorry for what happened, we like to provide the best service in all aspects, which is why we ask our travelers for feedback during and after the tour. This will help us improve in all aspects. Once again an apology for what happened and we hope that this has not overshadowed your magnificent trip to Chimborazo. On behalf of Daniel, Santiago, and all of us who make up El Barak Ecuador Travel, we send you a hug and a big greeting from the center of the world.
I had a very good hike with them. They took you from Baños to Chimborazo in a van, and from the first refuge you walk 50 minutes to get to the Condor Cocha Lagoon. The guide is very promptly and kind, he answered every question I had. The downhill was so good. The guide is near you in the van just in case. Highly recommended.
Thank you very much for traveling with us and for your great recommendation. It is very important to know your experience for us. We hope to see you again in Ecuador. A big hug from the Barak team. Regards
I liked the attention of Daniel and the professionalism of the guide José. I indicate the agency's hike and bike tour. Very good experience.
Muito obrigado por compartilhar sua experiência conosco e principalmente, por viajar com nossa equipe. Um grande abraço de Daniel e José. Saudações
