Dziękuję, Jacob Wonderful guide this trip. He spoke multiple languages, was very informative on the history and folklore of iceland, and an excellent driver. I wish we could have had more time at the stops but we saw all we wanted to and then some. Everything was planned out very well and I felt like Jacob was more a freind than tour guide. I would've liked to get to know him better. Thank you for for a great tour!
Perfect sized tour, comfortable bus and pace - saw all of the best things. Jakub is knowledgeable and friendly - always helpful. The guide is top importance and we had the top. Everyone already knows it's cold and expensive - worth the amazing geography and warm people - truly unique in the world.
We recently completed the 8-Day Ring Road Tour in June 2026. Thor Thorsteinsson was our driver and guide. He is an exceptional guide. Of course, he was knowledgeable, friendly, and genuinely committed to making sure everyone had a wonderful experience. Throughout the tour he was always attentive to the needs of every member of the group. Thor knew all the best viewpoints where we could fully appreciate the tour. One of the best highlights was a visit to a spectacular puffin nesting colony that wasn't on the original itinerary. Thor's knowledge, enthusiasm, sense of humor, and attention to detail made the entire tour very enjoyable. I highly recommend Thor Thorsteinsson to anyone considering a Troll.is tour.
Great way to experience Iceland. Might would have enjoyed doing the 6-Day tour more as our great guide switched off after 6 days and we could have used the other two days to explore the Blue Lagoon and the islands known to have the most puffin sighting opportunities. Our tour guide, Johann, made the trip fun and informative. Worth doing the tour just for his wealth of knowledge.
We did the 8 day tour around Iceland. The tour was structured oddly. We joined the 6 day tour and then spent 2 days in Borgarnes and joined two separate one day tours for our final 2 days. This meant we had three different groups and three different guide. In speaking with other guests, some of them had the 2days added to the front of the 6 days, and they returned to Reykjavik each night (that would not have been as good as ours - we enjoyed the low key vibe of Borgarnes - eating out was excellent and we didn't have 2 extra hours on the bus each day), So the trip is very fluid - changing depending on the schedule. On the 6 day part our guide Jon was excellent. Our days were packed and we enjoyed all the sights. The 6 day group was 15 in size - bus seated 19. The hotels stays are at 2 star hotels that are clean, functional and small - no frills. The Riverfront Boutique Lodge was not a highlight. It appears to cater to fisherman and the level of cleanliness and low budget room repairs made this place less than desirable. The rest of the hotels were great. Note that we did not stay in any of the hotels in the printed itinerary, which appears to be the norm. They chose the hotels based on availability and where you need to be. Also many of the stops are not in sequence from the itinerary so be calm - it will all work out. Jon managed to squeak in a extra - out of the way - stop to Hafnarhólmi, which added 4 more hours to the day, but it was epic - the most memorable thing we did on the island. You walk on a boardwalk right through the middle of a puffin colony. They are only 1 m away from you. On day 7 we joined a one day trip from that started in Reykjavik and picked us up in Borgarnes. Our guide Thor was excellent as he grew up in the area we visited. This group size was only 9. We were dropped back in Borganes and the rest of the group went back to Reykjavik. On day 8 we joined a different group on the one day trip from Reykjavik and were again picked up in Borganes. Group was 17 in size. There was quite a delay this day -1.5hours so it looked like we might miss a few spots, however our amazing guide Sigtryg (sorry for the spelling) managed to get all the spots in despite this group's very poor adherence to the schedule - they were constantly late which was becoming frustrating as I really wanted to see the last stop - columnar basalts. Our guide made it happen and I was most thankful. Some thoughts to share. -Food is incredibly expensive in Iceland. Drinks are too - one glass of wine is the same cost as the whole bottle here in Canada. Most restaurant food is excellent - only had one bad meal the whole time (Brunnhóll - Countryguesthouse - complete disaster). -Museums are way overpriced too. $60us for two to see the settlement museum in Reykjavik is ridiculous - should be $20 for two, or free. -wifi is available everywhere in Iceland, even on the tour buses -Vok baths are well worth the visit. -of the three hotels we stayed at in Reykjavik, we liked the Storm Hotel the best.
This was a comprehensive tour of the most significant sights in Iceland. Our guide and driver, John, did his utmost to ensure that we were educated about geological features (and how to pronounce Icelandic places!). His passion and enthusiasm for the land was most evident and he was consistently cheerful, optimistic and attentive. Katla Ice Caves were the highlight for us, although each day provided new experiences, such as Glacier hikes, whale watching, numerous waterfalls, chasms and often included extra "surprise" visits arranged by John. Accommodation was generally well selected, comfortable and if in a remote location, provided good dining services. Scenery was stunning. The small group size made this a great way to travel and maximised the whole Iceland experience.
With the guide of Haffi, the tour is quite amazwing! He is always on time and prepare the mini van before each day beginning. And, he is also patient with every team members even the request sometimes will cause the inconvenient to him. Moreover, apart from the sight point listed in the introduction page, he will surprised to show us some lesser-known points with excellent view. He is also knowledgeable about all the things of Iceland. The point I want to share the most is Haffi is always keep in high spirits and his enthusiasm is infectious.
It was a great tour, full of exiting experiences. It requires much energy regarding all the activities arranged. Our guide Haffin was excellent, professional and interesting, he took care of everyone well, and would bring us to some nice off-schedule spots. Highly recommended for those who wants to have a full view of Iceland, really worth it!
I booked this tour because of the beautiful scenery pictured with the tour description on the Tröll website and because of the included adventure activities and optional extras. It exceeded my expectations in both regards! The highlight of my tour was getting to see all of the amazing and varied natural sights as we travelled around this spectacular country. Our tour guide, Haffi, was very friendly and knowlegeable, and made the tour fun and interesting. The guides for the special activities were excellent as well and took good care of our group. My husband and I took advantage of all the optional extras, and we did not regret our decision. We thoroughlly enjoyed all of it and thought it was worth the additional cost. The accomodations varied from the more rustic Tröll properties to larger and more upscale hotels in some other locations. They were all suitable, though. The included breakfasts had plenty of options and gave us a good start to our day. The only downsiide to the hotels was that the rooms were often quite warm, but that seems to be typical across Iceland. The one negative during our tour was that meals could have been better coordinated. Since Haffi is a native Icelander, he knows the country well and asked if our group would like to see some extra sites that were not included as part of the tour. We said we did, but that added extra time to the day, making for long days and difficulty with dinner plans on multiple occasions. My husband and I enjoyed all of the places we visited, but we would have preferred to spend less time at each location, so we could eat earlier and have some down time at the end of the day. In all, this was a very memorable trip, and I'm glad I chose this tour over some of the others I had looked at. It was a great experience traveling with a small group from several U.S. states and other countries, rather than on a more impersonal big bus tour.
I went on an 8-day ring road trip with troll.is in May 2026. The weather wasn't stable, but it didn't stop me from wowing at every moment, and we still saw lots of beautiful animals. I usually travel alone rather than joining multi-day tours, but I am super glad I did it this time! Our tour guide, Thales, was great, and I was so lucky to meet a bunch of cool, wonderful human beings along the trip and become friends with them in the end. I started the trip alone but ended it with a group of warm people. Thanks to the people I met, and thanks to Thales for doing a perfect job!
