Sian met us at the subway station and immediately whisked us away to a small shop where a hot pot feast was already prepared and waiting on us. After that she led us on a three-hour journey of Chinese history and culture told through delicious food and drink -- from yogurt drinks conjuring memories of the Mongol invaders who build modern Beijing to the difference between the northern preference for noodles over the southern taste for rice. Sian was incredible and gave my friends and I a night we will never forget.
Hi Dan, thank you for the review! We’re thrilled Sian helped you and your friends enjoy the evening. Thanks again for joining us!
We thoroughly enjoyed the tour because we had an excellent guide in Sian Li who was very knowledgeable and friendly as well as the Australian couplie who were on the tour with us 3. However some of the stops were rushed particularly the first venue ( Mongolian Hot pot and the hand cut noodle stop) Fabolous location and great food in both . We would have liked more time to cook all of the food we were given and to finish beer/ soft drink in the Mongolian Hot pot rather than bringing it with us. Our recommendation would be to remove one of the other venues to allow time to enjoy the others ( possible the street food stop to share the fried noodle. ) It would have nice to have finished with the Hot Pot and have the Huton/ Chicken wings earlier in the trip.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re delighted to hear that you thoroughly enjoyed the tour and that Sian helped make the experience knowledgeable, friendly and memorable. We’re also glad you enjoyed the Mongolian hotpot and hand-cut noodle stops. Those are two of our favorite parts of the route, so we’re happy to hear the food and locations stood out. Thank you as well for your thoughtful comments about the pacing. Our Old Beijing Dinner tour is designed to include a wide range of dishes, neighborhoods and dining experiences. We appreciate your suggestions and will share your feedback with our Beijing team. Thanks again for joining us, and we hope to eat with you again on your next trip to China.
We had a wonderful time on the Beijing Dinner Tour with Sian and Jesus! From the very first stop, it was clear they had put so much thought and care into curating the perfect experience. They guided us through the highlights of Beijing’s incredible food scene, introducing us to so many delicious options that we never would have discovered on our own. Sian and Jesus were knowledgeable, passionate, and genuinely fun to explore the city with. Every dish felt like a little adventure and the variety of food was outstanding — there was truly something for everyone. Highly recommend this tour for anyone visiting Beijing!

We spent the evening with Jesus and Sian. Absolutely amazing experience. They took us to some incredible hidden gems around the city and we could not have asked for a better time out in Beijing! Their knowledge in the history and community mixed with their passion for food made for such an unforgettable evening. Thank you both!

We had such an amazing time on the tour with Sian! From start to finish, everything was so thoughtfully planned and executed. My wife and I genuinely loved how the experience introduced us to foods we probably never would have tried ourselves, and hearing the origin stories and cultural background behind each dish made it even more special. Sian was incredibly warm, welcoming, and made the whole night feel relaxed and fun. You can really tell how much passion and effort goes into creating the experience. We were still talking about it long after the tour ended! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a unique and memorable food experience — we’ll definitely be recommending it to friends and family
Hi Stoneman, thank you for the fantastic review! We’re so happy you and your wife enjoyed discovering new dishes, the stories behind them, and Sian’s passion. Thanks again for joining us!
We had a great tour with Erik! He was super knowledgeable and chatty and he and my Canadian husband bonded over being from Canada. It was great trying lots of different foods that I would have never tried on my own. Would highly recommend!
Thank you for the wonderful review - those Canadians are everywhere! We’re so glad you enjoyed discovering new foods with Erik.
Would 100% recommend. We had Sian who gave us three perfect amount of history and local knowledge. Food was delicious and we would never have found places like these ourselves. Amazing value for money. Make sure you do early on in your trip to Beijing. Thank you Sian!!!!
Hi Alice, thank you for the amazing review! We’re so glad you enjoyed the mix of food, history, and local insights with Sian. We completely agree that doing the tour early in a trip is a great strategy (plus, you can revisit the stops!). Thanks again for joining us!
My daughter (age 25) and I took this tour with Jesus as the guide (three other people were also part of the tour). It was truly a wonderful tour, and we both learned so much, as well as ate some delicious food. The pacing was excellent, and Jesus kept us informed as to what we were going to have, how long the walk would be between each stop — and even which place would have the best toilet “opportunity”. Among the food and drink Jesus shared with us were Beijing hot pot, Beijing style noodles, northern Chinese yogurt, a rice wine tasting, donkey meat sandwich (better than you would think), and two other dishes. Each place was a small business catering to locals, most of them holes-in-the-wall we would never have found on our own. Jesus was also a wealth of knowledge about places to visit in Beijing. The day after the tour we received an email from Jesus with the names (in both English and Chinese) of each of the dishes on the tour, and the names of each of the places we visited. Outstanding tour!
Hi Cindy, thank you for the fantastic review! We’re so glad you and your daughter enjoyed discovering local spots and regional flavors with Jesus. Thanks again for joining us!
We booked a private dinner tour for third parties. Sian was our guide, she was very friendly, motivated and answered all our questions. To the tour itself, it was a good opportunity for us to try some new stuff, but for the price they charge, be it in a group or privately, they don't offer much to try compared to other tours we've done and also just simple stuff. In retrospect, we wouldn't have booked it.
Thanks so much for joining us on our Old Beijing Dinner Tour! We are so pleased that you enjoyed your time with Sian. We’re sorry to hear the experience didn’t fully meet your expectations. On private tours, we tailor the route and dishes to the group’s preferences, including adjusting stops and adding extra dishes to ensure that everyone is well taken care of, though we understand preferences can vary. We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback and we’ll continue to refine the experience. Hope you had a delicious time eating your way through China, and wishing you safe travels!
Garth was awesome! He gave us an inside perspective on Beijing while trying some of the best food that we had in Beijing. I still think of the Mongolian hotpot and noodles!
Thanks so much for joining us - we're so happy to hear you're still thinking about the hotpot and noodles after the tour!
