1 Tag Private Charter Tour nach Shirakawa-go & Takayama

I booked a guided tour on purpose and did not prepare the tour. I visited the Hida village on my own after having been shown the entrance and aboiut two sentences of explanation that I had received. We went to Takayama. Next I was dropped of in the center one street behind the most famous street and told to be back 1h30 later, including lunch. When I returned, I was told we were now going to Shirakawa-go. I asked about the other stops in Takayama and was asked if I did not visit them. There was a map at the entrance to the quarter that showed were they were. I answered that it would have been helpful if he had told me before. I asked if he knew that I had booked a guided tour. He said yes, but that was only for Shirakawa-go. We finally drove to one more place in Takayama, then we continued to Shirakawa-go. There the guidance was to get me a tourist map and give me about 5 minutes of explanation concerning the village, then I was on my own again. I had taken a taxi tour two days before and received pretty much the same amount of information. This was a rip off, certainly not a guided tour by a knowledgeable guide. For half the price, I could have taken a taxi tour which I would advise everybody to do.

Excellent private tour experience! Shirakawa-go was stunning, and Takayama’s old town was full of charm and history. Khan was punctual, professional, and shared many interesting insights throughout the day. The vehicle was comfortable, and the itinerary was perfectly paced. A great way to see some of Japan’s most beautiful destinations in a single day.

We had a wonderful day on the Shirakawa-go & Takayama Private Charter Tour with Maaz. He spoke excellent English, was incredibly enthusiastic, and made the day both enjoyable and informative. What stood out most was how personable and attentive he was, always making sure we were comfortable and focusing on the things that interested us most. The highlight for us was Takayama Old Town, which was full of charm, history, and interesting shops. There was so much to see that we could easily have spent half a day there alone. We also thoroughly enjoyed visiting Hida no Sato Folk Village, which offered a fascinating glimpse into traditional rural life and was a beautiful place to explore. Overall, Maaz's friendly personality and genuine enthusiasm made for a fantastic day. Highly recommended.

We had an excellent private tour to Shirakawa-go and Takayama. The vehicle was comfortable, the itinerary was well organized, and we had plenty of time to explore both destinations at our own pace. Our guide was friendly, professional, and knowledgeable, making the day enjoyable and stress-free. Highly recommended for anyone looking to experience the beauty and culture of this region!

Driver was not a guide. Expensive booking agency Viator. Saw the places but no commentary English speaking (from Pakistan) but not Japanese so no in depth knowledge. Very disappointing and absolutely not worth the money. Vehicle had dark tinted windows so impossible to see out from back seat. Absolutely worthless. Skip booking with Viator. Exact same trip booked with Get your guide $110 less expensive Likely not go with smile tours again due to not providing the service described.

Not what we have expected from Viator. The van had dark film on the back seat windows , so dark that we couldn’t see out and it produced distorted views. The driver was just a driver and not a guide. He was a 21 year old from Pakistan on a one year visa. He was difficult to understand and had only basic knowledge of the area . He could tell us little about the areas we drove through. He didn’t provide commentary on the areas we drove through!! Viator charges $100. More than other providers for the same trip. This was not a guided tour but an expensive van ride. The driver (Abdul) asked whom we booked the tour with. When we said Viator charges $100 more; we asked if HE got more than with other booking agents and he said no. So we really don’t understand what your agency had to offer that would make it worth $100 more than other agencies. When I asked Abdul about the extra 100 dollars more he said all Americans are rich and 100 dollars is nothing. We were quite insulted. At for the places we went : Shirakago, there were 72 buses in the parking lot and the path to the town was crowded. The town itself was interesting but too many milling people. Other parts of the tour were less crowded. We resent paying $100. For this tour. On a previous tour we had a woman from Japan, a teacher who spoke excellent English and was well versed in Japanese history and culture. It was an excellent experience and one of the reasons we booked again with Viator. The name of this tour operator was “Smiles tours “ I did not smile. I think Viator did not provide the service they describe! Beware

We got out of the city to see the countryside and 2 towns. Beautiful scenery along the way. It was a long ride.
