Montepulciano Walking Tours
The town is a single climb: in at Porta al Prato, up the Corso past the Renaissance palazzi to Piazza Grande at 600 metres, where the Palazzo Comunale echoes Florence's Palazzo Vecchio and the Duomo never got its facade. Below the walls stands the Temple of San Biagio, Sangallo's travertine masterpiece of 1518. Guided walks usually end with a tasting.

Old Town Walks in Montepulciano — Häufige Fragen
What is there to see in Montepulciano old town?
Piazza Grande with the Palazzo Comunale and its climbable tower, the unfinished brick facade of the Duomo, the Renaissance palazzi along the Corso, the tufa cellars beneath them, and — a ten-minute walk downhill — the Temple of San Biagio.
How steep is Montepulciano?
Steep. The Corso climbs about 100 metres from Porta al Prato to Piazza Grande over roughly a kilometre, all of it uphill. There is a small bus and a car park near the top; most walking tours start high and work down.
Was Twilight filmed in Montepulciano?
Yes — Piazza Grande stood in for Volterra in New Moon, filmed here in 2009. The Palazzo Comunale and the piazza are recognisable, though the fountain scenes were shot on a set built for the film.
