The tour guide did not show up. I tried to contact them through WhatsApp, which is usual for tour operators in Indonesia, but the number wasn’t recognised. I messaged twice through the TripAdvisor app but got no response. Interestingly, I experienced credit card fraud shortly after booking this tour. Maybe choose a different tour operator.

We were taken around on a night food tour of Jogja by Ratna who was very informative and patient. It was a lot of fun and this was one of the best cultural experiences we had on our trip in terms of plugging into local culture and nightlife. Would recommend as a fun and interesting way to orient yourself around the city, try some new dishes, and learn about the history and people of this cool city at the same time.

I highly recommend this tour. Our guide Ratna whatsapped me a few days earlier to confirm the meeting point. She brought us all around town to sample the best of the local food which you won't read in a traveller's blog, but only from a local who has lived there and frequents these same food stalls. I managed to try the kopi joss charchoal coffee from the streetside night stall where it originated from, queued to eat Harga Lumpia from a small street cart, and sat by the roadside near the Kraton drinking Ronde Biasu ginger tea whilst watching the locals in their brightly lit go-karts. My best night out with a very sweet and knowledgeable guide. Thanks Ratna!
