Tag med på en rejse til UNESCO Gems of Georgia. Udforsk Mtskheta - den gamle hovedstad i Georgien. Besøg Jvari-kirken, Svetitskhoveli-katedralen og Samtavro-klosteret. Vores første stop er Jvari kirke, som er en af de ældste kirker i Georgien. Kirkens navn er oversat som "kors". Kirken har en storslået udsigt over den antikke hovedstad Mtskheta og sammenløbet af to floder (Aragvi & Mtkvari). Jvari kirke er opført som et verdensarvsted af UNESCO sammen med andre historiske strukturer i Mtshketa. Jvari er det perfekte sted for dem, der ønsker at rejse tilbage i tiden og nyde middelalderens arkitektur.
Vores sidste stop er Mtskheta - den gamle hovedstad i Kartli, det østgeorgiske kongerige fra det 3. århundrede f.Kr. til det 5. århundrede e.Kr., og var også stedet, hvor kristendommen blev udråbt som Georgiens officielle religion i 337. Selvom hovedstaden blev flyttet til det lettere forsvarede Tbilisi i det 5. århundrede, fortsatte Mtskheta med at være kronings- og begravelsessted for georgiske konger og sæde for patriarken, som også er kendt som biskoppen af Mtskheta. Giorgio was very accommodating and friendly, we visited Jvari and Mtskheta as well as a third cathedral. He was patient and we could spend enough time in the town of Mtskheta.

We only had a few days stopover in Tbilisi and wanted a short tour from the city to the main highlights. This tour is a great way to see the Caucus Mountains. The guide Catherine was excellent and very eager to speak with us all. The sites we visited were well curated, hitting all of the highlights around Kazbegi. Lots of car travel is required, but it’s coupled with adequate stops and chances to walk around.
