Mtskheta er en af de ældste byer i Georgien nær Tbilisi. Mtskheta var hovedstad i det tidlige georgiske kongerige Iberia fra det 3. århundrede f.Kr. til det 5. århundrede e.Kr. Her accepterede georgiere kristendommen i 317. Jvari-klosteret er et georgisk-ortodoks kloster fra det 6. århundrede nær Mtskheta. Den store kirke repræsenterer toppen af arkitektonisk typologi. Det er et sandt arkitektonisk mesterværk fra den tidlige middelalderperiode med udsigt over sammenløbet af Aragvi og Mtkvari-floderne fra toppen af bakken. Svetitskhoveli-katedralen blev bygget i det 11. århundrede, selvom selve stedet er endnu ældre, og dateres tilbage til det tidlige 4. århundrede. Monumentet har et aflangt kors, som ser ud til at røre himlen. Katedralen er den næststørste kirkebygning i Georgien og er opført som UNESCO. Samtavro Klosterkompleks blev bygget i det 11. århundrede. Den indeholder graven af dronning Nana og Mirian III, kongen af Iberia, som etablerede kristendommen som den officielle religion i Georgien.

I really enjoyed this tour to Mtskheta, the old capital of Georgia. It was a beautiful and peaceful trip, and the place feels very special with its rich history and amazing views. The churches and historic sites were impressive, especially Jvari Monastery and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral. The tour was well organized, comfortable, and not too tiring. Our tour guide, Nino, was wonderful — very friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about Georgian history and culture. She made the experience even more interesting and enjoyable. It was a great chance to learn more about Georgia while enjoying a calm atmosphere outside Tbilisi. I especially liked the panoramic views and the unique spiritual feeling of the city.
