Excellent guide, but unfortunately the tram wasn't working, so as we had nothing else arranged we settled for a one hour walk around the port with the guide. At 65 dollars each a bit expensive. It was interesting but disappointing. I understand we will get a refund of the tram and ales portion of the trip. I do think we should have been notified beforehand as the tram had been out of action for some weeks.
Guide was extremely knowledgeable about Juneau and its people. The only negative was the weather as we did not get a good view from the tram due to the rain.
Damen was a great guide. Excellent stories and very knowledgeable. Beer was top notch. Rain didn’t stop us from a wonderful tour.
While I appreciate the cultural part of the experience. This was lack luster at best and not worth $150 (after taxes/fees) we literally stopped at 4 totem poles and were given a breif story. Our guide was nice but clearly nervous as his delivery was choppy. It was maybe 45 min at best. There is nothing about a seamless blend of outdoors and beer appreciation other than you are given a token at the beginning to take to the bar. Also the exhilarating trails are there, but they don't take you on them. You go on your own. As a solo traveler I was looking to join a hike with others since in bear country (we saw 2 black bears on the trail, but that was on my own hike). That did not happen. I made my own way and met up with new people on the trail. I could have gone with out the tour. Just buy the tram ticket and walk around on your own its only $45-$60. Depending on your ability you can stay close to the gift shop where there are more people or continue up the mountain for a more adventurous experience. My guide literally said, "normally I'll take people up to the cross, but I have a new tattoo and I shouldn't sweat 🫤 dissapointing overall.
Everything about this “adventure” was horrid. Overpriced, underdelivered and a major, MAJOR waste of time. To begin, we had to wait in line for 45 minutes to board. After about 30 minutes in that line, an employee came by and advised us that the wait to board a tram back down, was now an hour and a half. That’s when I started having doubts. However, I’m a avid photographer and the ride promises “Spectacular Views,” so we stuck it out. When we arrived at the top, there were no signs or employees telling us where to go to find the “Spectacular views.” There were plenty of signs and announcements directing us to the restaurant and gift shop, but the only views we could find were of the harbor and pretty severely obstructed by the tram infrastructure. On one pseudo-sign opposite the tram building there appeared to be some hiking trails to supposed photo spots, but it wasn’t at all clear and the hikes were 30 minutes or longer. Since we had already spent the day hiking, we weren’t up for another hour of hiking just to get to the closest photo point. We waited a while on some benches to see if the LONG return line would get any shorter and it didn’t, so we got in line. BTW this was around 4:00 pm. The return line took us about 40 minutes. By the time we were down, it had cost $60 each for hardly any pictures and NO “Spectacular views.” Plus, given the wait to board at both ends, it was almost 3 hours of our vacation time absolutely pissed away. You have been warned.
The tram ride is quick but fun. The hike was beautiful and only had a couple of spots where balance mattered. Shelly was a good hike guide. Bit too fast but not slow either. It was nice to sit and have a local beer at the end.
Enjoyed views, ale & learning about all the totem poles. Perfect views & day. Thanks Micheal for your insights & knowledge.
We had a wonderful trail walk thanks to our guide Chilly. She is so knowledgeable regarding the natural surroundings and Alaskan history.
We had a nice excursion. Staff was on time and very professional. I would probably done tram and hike alone hind sight being 20-20
Our tour guide Chelli was entertaining and knowledgeable. It was an enjoyable experience. Went on a shorter hike due to weather.
