Tour 11 monolitiske klippekirker og museum i Lalibela & hule kirke med mumier

Denne unikke 2-dages tur er en guidet tur i 11 monolitiske kirker hugget ud af klippen i det 12. århundrede. Disse kirker i Lalibela blev bygget som et nyt Jerusalem på det tidspunkt, hvor Jerusalem var utilgængeligt. Besøgende bliver afhentet i lufthavnen, afleveret på deres hotel til frokost på egen hånd og derefter ført til den nordlige gruppe af kirker efterfulgt af et museumsbesøg. Den 2. dag begynder med en 42 kilometer tur til Yimrehane Krestos kirke bygget i en hule. Denne smukke kirke bygget af træ og sten forud for de stenhuggede kirker i Lalibela med firs år. På bagsiden af denne hule kan man se nogle af de århundreder gamle mumificerede rester af 5.500 pilgrimme. En landsby i nærheden er valgfri, da besøgende vender tilbage til Lalibela til frokost på deres hotel og eftermiddagstur i den sydøstlige klynge af kirker og Bet Giyorgis (St. George) konstrueret til ære for St. George, skytshelgen for Etiopien. Afhentning finder sted den følgende morgen efter morgenmaden til overførsel til lufthavnen.

An amazing place. Unique in many ways. Worth going there anytime, but Timket is best. Colourful, music and singing, the tradition, the history, the UNESCO class architecture. Plus the market and the little climbing to the monastery at 3000 m!

Before arriving in Lalibela, I met an Ethiopian guide who told me that one day would be enough to see the place. But that wasn’t true at all.
