Hej til alle, Jeg er Alvaro, en venezuelaner, der bor i den smukke Tamarindo Beach, Costa Rica, en surfinstruktør og leder af Tidal Wave Surf Academy. Min rejse med surfing startede i Venezuela for 18 år siden, på en strand kaldet Chirimena, og jeg surfede næsten hele Venezuelas centrale kyst. For fire år siden ankom jeg til Tamarindo, blev forelsket i denne strandby og begyndte at give surflektioner. Jeg er en ISA-certificeret certificeret surfinstruktør, og jeg har stor erfaring med at lære børn og voksne at surfe. Surfing har givet mig balance, ro og en følelse af mening, og jeg nyder at formidle passionen ved at surfe ved at lære folk den sport, der har givet mig så meget. Today was my first day ever to surf at 54. Alvaro was a great teacher. Few words. All of them perfect and at the perfect moment in our 2 hour lesson. I will definitely call again when we return.
If you’re even thinking about taking surf lessons in Tamarindo—do it, and book with this crew. It was truly one of the highlights of our entire trip. We had a group of 10, all complete beginners, and every single person walked away absolutely loving the experience. From the very start, the vibe was perfect—informative but laid-back, structured but still fun. There was zero pressure, just constant encouragement and great energy. Alvero and his team were incredible. They broke everything down in a way that made it easy to understand, gave helpful tips throughout, and made sure everyone felt comfortable in the water. By the end of the lesson, every single person in our group was standing up on the board—which honestly felt impossible going in! What stood out most was how personal and positive the experience felt. They were patient, attentive, and genuinely excited for us when we succeeded. Lots of laughs, lots of cheering, and such a fun group atmosphere. If you want an experience that’s equal parts memorable, confidence-boosting, and just plain fun—this is it. Could not recommend Alvero and his team more highly. 🌊
Alvaro was a fantastic instructor! My 11 year old and I enjoyed a private lesson with him. He showed us correct form, got us comfortable with the mechanics before getting in the water, and was so patient and kind. I’m 50, had never surfed and figured it would be a lot of fun to try but had no expectations of getting up on my board or actually riding a wave. Both happened! It was a great experience. Highly recommend.

Absolutely wonderful! Our two teenage children have never tried surfing before, the instructor was patient, kind, and knowledgable.
I had a private lesson with Alvaro and despite it being my first time surfing, he had me up and surfing almost immediately. Alvaro explains the concepts really well and was able to communicate in excellent English, what corrections I needed to make. He has a very relaxed and fun demeanor that made the lessons extra fun.

Alvaro takes time to break down each concept so it makes sense in the water, and clear communication is key to making fast corrections and real progress. My daughters and boyfriend had a great fun experience with Alvaro. This was their first time taking a surfing lesson. Alvaro was an excellent instructor. He took his time and gave great information. I would highly recommend Tidal Wave Surf Academy. Pura Vida😊

Second time surfing with Alvaro. He brought his board and we swapped waves for two hours. He expertly taught me how to gage waves, position my board for a ride, .pop up, the works. He makes a lesson feel like you are surfing with your best friend.

Had an incredible experience with Alvaro. The best surf teacher I’ve ever had. He had probably 20 tips I’d never heard before. After his instruction eas my first time “feeling it”. I caught tons of waves! Highly recommend!

Alvaro was a super teacher for my husband and two teenagers. They learned very quickly thanks to his coaching and wise comments. He really knows his stuff! I recommend x1000!!
