Such an eye-opening tour of St. John's. Our guide, whose name I forget, now that I'm back home (she's a singer and theatre actress as well and performs standup locally), was an excellent storyteller with a sense of humour. She managed to weave a tale not only about St. John's but about the out-port fishing villages, the history of the Truck System of economic bartering, knitting for dollars, the ugly stick and mummers; by stopping in front of stores on Water Street (music store, knitting store etc.) to launch into a story. Our talented guide/performer also sang versus of trad songs to compliment the stories she told. I do wish I remembered her name. You'll also see the jellybean houses, St. George Street, Anglican church, and the main city attractions. But it's her storytelling and singing that set her tour above the rest I have taken.
This review made us very proud and we'll make sure Sam sees it. Thanks for taking the time to write it all out so beautifully.
David Peters offered a great walk through history told with many wonderful stories of known and lesser known Newfoundlanders, and their impact on Newfoundland and Canada. As a student of history, I even learned a few new things! His suggestions of things to do and explore after the tour were A+.
When a history buff learns something new, you know the guide is something special! David really does dig into the lesser known stories that make Newfoundland's place in Canadian history so fascinating. Thanks for this wonderful review!
David, our tour guide, did an excellent job. He is a "townie" and very authentic. We learned a great deal about St. John's and its history. It's a lot of walking, but with pauses (and one port-a-potty break) that let us rest for a few minutes at each stop on the tour. There are some inclines, and you are on your feet the whole 2.5 hours, so wear comfortable shoes
Thanks for keeping it real and for the lovely review! We hope you enjoyed your entire visit to St. John's.
Our guide was Dave and he had lots of stops on the tour to give us the history of the area. He also had some personal stories and ideas of where we should visit after the tour. I felt it was good value for the money.
So glad it felt like great value. Hope his recommendations led you somewhere good!
Very good tour by Sam, in addition to being interesting and attentive, she sings a few songs from the Newfoundland repertoire with a beautiful voice!
Sam was the absolutely best tour guide for St. John’s. She was so informative and gave us so much information. I highly recommend her to tour with you.
High praise indeed. Thanks so much for recommending her and for sharing this with us!
David was an amazing guide! What a fantastic tour. We had a lively time with hin as we explored St. John's and David provided the narration. We learned so much about the history and cultural life of the city, and we appreciated that he wasn't afraid to talk about the difficult parts of history. Would absolutely take this tour again
We really do believe the full story of St. John's deserves to be told. So glad it resonated with you and that you'd come back for more. Thanks for this wonderful review!
Isaac was informative, personal and professional. He had an excellent knowledge of St. John's and it's history. The pace was appropriate for the group. Would recommend as a good overview of this beautiful city!
Thanks for the lovely review.
David was fantastic. He was funny, animated and really knows his St. John's and Newfoundland history. One of the best walking tours we have taken.
Funny, animated and packed with local knowledge - that's David at his best! Thanks so much for taking a walk with us.
Samantha was an excellent walking tour host! The areas we explored were meaningful, informative & beautiful! She made the City of St. John’s come alive! An added joy to the tour was Sam singing to us songs of the loving Newfoundlander way!
Sam has such a gift for bringing St. John's to life. So glad she added that extra special touch to your tour.
