Unfortunately the weather was rainy a good bit of the time. This made the water choppy, and also the water was not very clear, though I don't know if that was due to the weather or not. The guide was pleasant and helpful. If you've snorkeled before, this will probably not be high on the list of locations to snorkel and the boat is not a typical snorkel boat, its more of a large row boat. Also, they should let people know to bring their own towels and drinking water. Also bring lunch if you don't want to buy from the food stand on the island.
I would like to clarify a few important points. The tour description clearly explains what is included and what is not included, and photos of the experience are available before booking. We also contacted you before the tour to provide instructions and give you the opportunity to ask any questions in advance. This is a local marine experience in the Portobelo National Marine Park, and conditions in nature can vary. Weather, rain, waves, and water visibility are factors outside our control. That said, visibility was still good enough to see corals and fish during the activity. As a certified Rescue Diver, I also have the responsibility to prioritize the safety of the group based on sea conditions, guest comfort, and each person’s level of experience in the water. Snorkeling can be challenging for guests who have never practiced it before, especially for older travelers or guests who may experience seasickness. I can provide guidance and assistance, but snorkeling still requires a minimum level of comfort in the water. In this case, when we were reaching the area with better visibility, the activity had to be adjusted for safety and guest comfort. Regarding the boat, this is an authentic local boat experience, which is part of the cultural and natural character of the region. It is not presented as a luxury snorkeling vessel. I also want to mention that we always try to handle our tours with flexibility, patience, and good will. During this experience, a snorkel tube was lost, and I did not charge you for it. This reflects the way we normally work with our guests: with understanding and care. We are proud that the vast majority of our guests consistently leave five-star reviews, and we work very hard to provide safe, honest, and memorable experiences in Panama. We regret that you felt disappointed, but we also believe this review does not fully reflect the communication, safety decisions, flexibility, and local context of the experience. Thank you again for joining us, and we wish you safe travels. Juan
Excellent tour. Personalien attention. Memorable. Hector and Diego teamed for a one of a kind experience.
Juan was an excellent guide! We had such a great day of snorkeling, sightseeing, history, and marvelous conversations. Plus, he is a certified diver, so we felt very confident in the water with him there. Just a note, on this trip there was a place to change into bathing suits, and that was a good amenity. I recommend this tour unconditionally.
I can only recommend this trip! The hotel pick up was comfortable and we were a very small group which made the tour very relaxed. Juan was very nice and knowledgeable about the wildlife and Panama in general. We arrived at a beautiful beach in portobelo in the morning and even were the only people there for some time. As soon as we got into the water we saw plenty of beautiful colorful fish, corals and even a big barracuda. It was also nice to relax at the beach after the diving and enjoy some food there in the sun. It is a very nice trip especially if you want to combine seeing the Caribbean side of Panama, having some nice beach time and of course a great snorkeling experience
Juan was an amazing guide and very knowledgeable about Panama and it's amazing history. Snorkeling was fun even though the currents were a bit strong and we had to cut it short. The beach was relaxing and the historical tour was extremely informative. I would absolutely do this tour again!!
Our guide Bryan was very personable while being informative about panama and his love of country. Francisco, not only kept us safe on our travels, but also added fun information. Both guides had a very good sense of humor. We drove in the rain which was disappointing, but then when we arrived at Pueblo, the rain, miraculously disappeared. So snorkeling was a great adventure. We appreciated their local knowledge and attitudes. Don’t hesitate to take this tour.
Beautiful beach and water! We had a great time exploring the ocean and town of Portobelo. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly.
Thank you so much for your kind words! 🌊😊 We’re truly happy to hear you enjoyed the beautiful beach, the ocean, and exploring the historic town of Portobelo. It means a lot to us that you felt well taken care of and that our guide helped make the experience informative and enjoyable. We hope to welcome you back to Panama for more adventures. Juan
Ended up as a private tour, Hector and Diego were excellent guides and made it an amazing trip. It was our first time snorkeling and the equipment was great and it was very easy to get started. Hector took very good care of us and was able to show us many fish, corals, and a sting ray! And explained a lot about the ecology of Panama. They were very accommodating and overall it was a fantastic experience to check off our bucket list.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re truly happy to hear that your first snorkeling experience was such a success and that the equipment made everything easy and enjoyable from the start. Héctor will be very proud to know he took great care of you and was able to show you so much marine life—including fish, corals, and even a stingray! We’re also glad you enjoyed learning about Panama’s ecology, as sharing our natural environment is something we’re very passionate about. Thank you for choosing us and for allowing us to be part of such a special bucket-list experience. We hope to welcome you back to Panama for more adventures in the future! Warm regards, Juan José
Nice tour but long van ride (2 hours each way). Bring dry clothes, towel and food. After the van ride there is a short boat ride to the beach dive site. The reef is short swim from the beach. Tour guides were very nice and knowledgeable. At the boats there were some changing areas but there was no water since a pipe had broken. Reef was ok and there were some nice small fish to see. There had been some rain so water was a bit cloudy. We also got a tour of the small town Portobelo
We were picked promptly by Hector, Diego and Brian at our hotel. They were courteous and friendly. Once we began our journey Hector introduced everyone and began to narrate the sites. He is full of historical knowledge and antidotes. The trip to the cove took approximately 2 hours from our hotel with one rest stop for snacks and beverages. They did let us know in advance to bring drinks and food when we stopped for the restroom in case we hadn’t already packed something. A couple thing we would suggest improving are: be sure to bring dry clothes, towels, and water shoes because getting in out of the water is very rocky. The trash at the snorkeling area really needs to be cleaned up and a few more 3xl lifejackets. But otherwise it was a peaceful oasis during the morning when we arrived. We can’t say enough good things about these 3 gentlemen. We were spoiled and treated with such kindness and patience. We lucked out and ended up being the only four people on the tour. The conversations and jokes and actually getting time to know our guides was priceless. Hopefully everyone gets lucky to meet these guys. Thanks for helping us make memories. Gargamel and Shrek along with their trusty sidekick Brian made our day!
